Bruh why they keep playing in our faces
BREAKING🚨 Target pulled their blackface costume for kids, apologized, then refused to say who designed it or who signed off on putting it up for sale.
The listing went up this summer under Target's own Hyde & EEK! Boutique line, titled the "Kids' Glows Under Blacklight Circus Clown Halloween Costume Bodysuit." The design was an orange-and-black clown outfit with black gloves and a dark face covering with an exaggerated grinning mouth. It sat there for weeks. Screenshots spread across Threads and TikTok over the weekend, and now the product page read "currently unavailable."
Target says "As a company, we know we got this wrong, and we are deeply sorry. The costume is offensive and should never have been part of our assortment." It added that it knows the costume is "especially hurtful for our Black guests, team members and partners."
Target declined to say who designed it, or how it was green-lit for sale.
Sheletta Brundidge, a Minneapolis-area business leader who was among the first to back the 2025 national boycott of Target, saw the listing Saturday and assumed it was fake.
"I thought that it was something that somebody sent me and it was AI," she said.
"You rolled back diversity," she said, "so who's in the room, now, to say 'hey, this is wrong?'"
That rollback happened in early 2025, after Trump signed executive orders targeting what he called "illegal DEI." Target backed off pledges to increase representation of Black employees and support Black-owned suppliers, saying it needed to keep up with "the evolving external landscape." Black faith leaders organized a national boycott. Sales and store traffic sagged, and in early 2026 the company cut roughly 500 jobs.
