William Hulon Mary Hale draws light; that which gives form, contrast and visibility to all things. Light creates shadow, shadow creates depth, depth defines dimension. By stripping away the trappings of materialism - pride and vanity, selfishness and vainglory, we are illuminated by the first great miracle that allowed us to see all miracles. By focusing on light we can see Creatures as the recipi

ents and repositories of Grace, even as we are tainted by the fall. By light alone, shocking, stark and barren against a world of colorful trends and temporal pleasures, we can see Creatures as they are and were meant to be - waiting, hoping and struggling for a crown of everlasting life. William lives outside Atlanta, Georgia and works as a web developer and artist. BACKGROUND
I have lived many lifetimes in my lifetime, and I have seen the world, but I was raised on Georgia red clay. And I stay rooted in the memories of my family farm, my mama's fried chicken and my daddy's wisdom. TECHNIQUES
My medium is light, shape and shadow in soft pastels. It's how I see and what I draw. It is simple, unadorned and true. The formal name for my style is chiaroscuro, which refers to the contrast between dark and light. That contrast defines all of creation. INSPIRATION
God, creation, tradition. I'm inspired by the icons and personalities of the Catholic Church. I'm also inspired by the painting of Vincent Van Gogh, the haunting strains of an Irish fiddle, and the wise words of Flannery O'Connor. And maybe an occasional taste of good whisky.

Traditionally, the Immaculate heart is depicted pierced with seven wounds or swords, in homage to the seven dolors of Mary and roses, usually red or white, wrapped around the heart.

Remember, dear Lady of La Salette, true Mother of Sorrows, the tears which thou didst shed for me on Calvary; be mindful also of the unceasing care which thou dost exercise to shield me from the justice of God; and consider whether thou canst now abandon thy child, for whom thou hast done so much. Inspired by this consoling thought, I come to cast myself at thy feet, in spite of my infidelity and ingratitude. Reject not my prayer, O Virgin of reconciliation, convert me, obtain for me the grace to love Jesus Christ above all things and to console thee too by living a holy life, in order
