I found this book when I was wading through some very big life decisions, and my oh my do I wish I had found it during previous seasons in my life as well.
This book is like a tall glass of water. So liberating, refreshing and good for the soul. Not only does Emily give practical advice and practices to think through in each chapter, she also ends each one with a beautiful prayer that recentered my heart on what was most important and helped me take what I was feeling and thinking through directly to God.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard from Christian’s not to listen to your heart or follow your heart because “the heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked.” While obviously that is scripture and I can respect where they are coming from when they make that claim, it has also caused a lot of confusion and doubt for me in my own spiritual discernment.
This book helped me realize that sometimes I have prayed and ached for clarity and certainty from some outside source or sign, when God has already spoken to me through his word and my own desires and I can trust that if I am seeking him and walking in his will, he is leading me and directing my heart, even if it’s often just by one “next right thing” at a time.
I connected deeply to this book, Emily’s personal and poetic writing and the thoughtful questions and scriptures she shared.
I have a strong feeling I will be returning to this book and will definitely be recommending it to friends whenever they are needing guidance and facing a season of major decision as well.
