🎭 A vibrant theatrical and musical creation by Compagnie Tilawçis, Flamboyants! brings together the cultures of New Orleans, Réunion Island, and Puerto Rico in a powerful exploration of memory, identity, and resilience.

🌎 Performed in five languages — Louisiana Creole, Réunion Creole, French, English, and Spanish — the show celebrates the rich connections between Creole cultures, shaped by histories of slavery, resistance, and cultural survival.

Presented by the Alliance Française of Atlanta, with the support of the Consulate General of France in Atlanta and Villa Albertine, Flamboyants! is part of the France-Atlanta 2026 season! 🌟

Bonne retraite, Catherine! 🎉

Today we celebrate Catherine Francisse, who is retiring from the Alliance Française d’Atlanta.

Catherine grew up in Brussels, where she earned a master’s degree in Psychology and Education. She began her career in textbook publishing in Belgium and moved into teaching after coming to Atlanta, where she spent 18 years in Johns Creek public schools. When she retired from that job, her love of teaching brought her to us. Our students have benefited from that decision ever since.

Catherine, thank you for your patience, your expertise, and the joy you brought to every class. We hope retirement leaves plenty of time for traveling, reading, and diving!

Joyeuse Action de grâce! 🍁 Happy Canadian Thanksgiving to all our friends celebrating today!

To mark the occasion, meet one of our Canadian teachers, Gary Gluck. Born in Toronto to Swiss parents from the French-speaking Jura, he learned French early so he could talk with family in Switzerland. He then grew up in Brussels, where he went to French-language schools. After earning a BA in English Literature from Carleton University in Ottawa, he studied literary translation in Brussels and went on to an MFA in Comparative Literature and Literary Translation at the University of Iowa.

For the past 25 years he’s worked as a French-to-English translator on everything from EU policy to finance to NGO reports. He has taught French at the University of Portland, Kennesaw State, the University of Iowa, and here at the Alliance. He’s also a certified DELF/DALF examiner.

He has studied Spanish, Italian, German, Dutch, and Turkish, and he’s still curious about one big question: what’s the best way to learn a language, and what works for each student? We think his students are lucky to find out with him.
