We’re back! It’s our first storytelling open mic of the year!

Have a story you’ve been itching to tell?

Join us for a night of true, personal storytelling on the theme of “Hypothesis.” Maybe it’s a wild idea you tested, a theory about life that proved you right (or hilariously wrong), or a moment when curiosity led you somewhere unexpected.

Share your 5-7 minute story on stage, or just come to listen and cheer on others. Want to tell your story? Simply drop your name in the hat when you arrive! (Stories only - no stand-up comedy or poetry this time.) This is our third year partnering with Atlanta Science Festival.

Last month we heard stories on the theme of REVERSAL! We heard stories about trying to return to a country after accidentally illegally immigrating across a border, a deal gone wrong, not allowing the scammer to scam you, how a refused reversal led to a child, wanting to reverse course on a treacherous camping trip, reversing a decision on wanting to meet biological family, accidentally reversing a car, seeing a different side of your stepdad’s personality, having difficult conversations with your children, and the role reversal of chaperoning your parents.

Last month we heard stories on the theme of DISGUISE! We heard about going back in the closet, dealing with an elementary school bully, pretending to be in a hostage situation for work security training, plans for a baby shower that end in chaos, pretending to be qualified for a job to get your foot in the industry, and becoming more successful with a new disguise.

Come out tomorrow for our next event on the theme of REVERSAL!

Last month we heard stories on the theme of THE ELEMENTS! We heard about your crush calming your anxiety by telling you science jokes, enjoying time with a pretty lady out in the elements, trespassing outside at the big tower in your small town, braving the elements of independence after having wild roommates, winning a round in the pun competition with your chemistry knowledge, following a guy dressed like a hobbit priest out to a cabin in the woods, causing reactions by being true to yourself, a camping trip ruined by fire and mud, trying to learn a new water skill and failing, and a harrowing stand-off outside the club.

Last month we heard stories on the theme of JOURNEY! We heard about a dating disaster, adding whimsy to your parents’ otherwise routine life, owning your speech impediment, food poisoning while backpacking, not realizing you were being flirted with, learning to sit in your fear, meeting an inspiring person in an otherwise sketchy hostel, accidentally hurting someone as a child, learning lore about your father at the family reunion, realizing what you want out of dating, and sneaking a stolen street sign back to your dorm (we won’t tell who did it)!

Come see us tomorrow for more stories on the theme of The Elements!

Last month we heard stories on the theme of FREE WILL. We heard about honoring the will of your dog, a lawyer learning that free wills are not the best wills, reclaiming power as a child by taking money out of your dad’s wallet, living a truly free childhood, how a writing coach led a child to reuniting with their dad and going to the White House, realizing how your free will intertwines with someone elses, realizing you can go as fast or slow as you want to in the big race, the importance of demonstrating your free will in local elections, how conditioning makes free will hard, sacrificing being close to family for big opportunities, how having a child led to feeling more hope for the future, crashing a VIP birthday party at the club to steal some water, and finally, being an Alabama state representative working toward bills to bring equality to women and girls!

Last month we heard stories on the theme of COINCIDENCES! We heard stories about a drunk guy calling the name of a loved one that passed away, randomly finding an old neighbor’s gravestone at a cemetery, hiking through one of the worst storms to visit your sick mom, going on a free trip to Mexico and finding an old family friend in line at a tourist site, being a safe person for friends to come out to, connecting with your ancestors, and how reading Dune in the local library led to getting a dream job.

Last month we heard stories on the theme of GROWTH. We heard about when growth stops, growing in self-confidence, how friendships grow and change over time, an overgrowth of bacteria from food poisoning, recognizing you’re worthy of love, shenanigans during Boy Scout camp, accidental involvement with the Chinese mafia during an international trip, being in jail with a broken hand during Y2Gay Pride weekend, reluctantly learning how to grow a gifted sapling, getting over the fear of being authentic, and learning that growth doesn’t always come from hyperextension.

Join us tomorrow to hear stories on the theme of COINCIDENCES!

Last month we heard stories on the theme of ANTICS! We heard stories about a mall scavenger hunt with a side of theft, having a peak immigrant experience, building a snowman so large that security guards got involved, trying new experiences with friends while playing video games, an embarrassing circus performance as a missionary abroad, multitasking while getting a tattoo, a prank backfiring, slipping some golf balls in the matzo ball soup at Passover, lying about getting mugged abroad, and a wild night involving a kiddie pool full of gravy.
