Finding out you’re a B-roll friend can sting.

You thought you were one of *the* friends. Then you notice who gets called first, invited first, included in the important moments, or considered when plans are made…and suddenly, your place in the friendship feels a little different than you imagined.

That realization can hurt, but it doesn’t always mean the friendship is fake. Sometimes two people simply have different ideas about how close they are.

The question becomes: Can you enjoy the friendship for what it actually is instead of constantly being upset about what you thought it was?

You don’t have to punish them, compete for a higher spot, or prove your value.

But you *can* adjust your expectations, and match the level of investment.

Have you ever realized you ranked differently in a friendship than you thought you did?

Let’s talk about it, Girlfriends 👀

The chronically late friend is interesting because lateness itself may be the surface issue, but the real tension is often about consideration, power, and reciprocity.

What makes it bigger than “she’s just always late” is that repeated lateness can start communicating:
“Your time is more flexible than mine.”
“You’ll wait for me.”
“I don’t have to adjust because you will.”
“My circumstances automatically take priority.”

And that is usually why people get so irritated. It’s not always about the 20 or 30 minutes. It’s the feeling that one person is doing all the accommodating.
There’s also a big difference between someone who struggles with time management and someone who is casual about inconveniencing you. A late friend who texts, apologizes, gives an accurate ETA, tries to improve, or says, “Go ahead without me,” is showing awareness. A friend who consistently shows up 45 minutes late, acts like it’s funny, and then tells you that you’re “doing too much” for being annoyed is showing something else entirely.

Chronically late friends aren’t always disrespectful. But chronic lateness can still feel disrespectful, especially if it’s treated like a joke or an expectation.

Sometimes the friendship annoyance isn’t the habit itself, but realizing the habit keeps requiring more grace from you than accountability from them.

What do you think, Girlfriends? Is it really that big of a deal? 🤔

I talk a lot about community-how we build it, nurture it, and show up for one another. But community can’t only mean the people in our immediate circle. It also means giving back to the greater community we’re a part of.

Today, that looked like rolling up our sleeves and showing up to support a friend Outstanding Lady W/ Attitude™🇳🇬 as she hosted Senior Bingo for the City of Atlanta. Just being present, being useful, and helping create a little joy for people who deserve to feel seen and celebrated.

And there’s something beautiful about friendship that extends beyond brunches, birthdays, trips. Good friendship can become service.

That’s community.
That’s friendship. ❤️
