Origami Mami

Origami Mami My name is Kelsey Leahy and I am exceedingly useful. I am known as Vagabond Oboist and Origami Mami
and I like to help out where I can. How can I help you?

I show up and I do things. I believe in kindness and that
Every breath is an opportunity.

78 tiny, shiny butterflies added to the many hundreds that live with twin Alices. This batch came from my last plane adventure, and soon I fly off on another journey!

Here's a riddle for ya:

If Origami Mami spends ten hours on a plane and two weeks on the road how many butterflies will she fold? One tiny butterfly takes forty seconds to fold...the tinier ones take 60 seconds.

There will also be a game of co-creation involving poetry and art, perhaps another origami lesson with flight attendants, new words to write down, old words to sift through, snacks to eat, water to drink, and perhaps a moment or two of stillness!

How many butterflies do you think?

Bonus: whoever guesses closest (without going over) will receive a gift of poetry in the form of FRAGMENTS.

How do you spend your time in flight?

Where in the world has Origami Mami been the last twelve months?

Here, there, and everywhere.

Sharing words, spreading tunes, and folding paper. Peeling back the layers of self to see what light sits at the core.

Watch what happens next as I continue to show up places... Invited in, welcomed warmly, cherished cheerfully.

Website is updated with the public appearances I've made...Go back down the list if you're really interested in some photos and details and so much more!

My life is an open book.

My heart is full after an evening of celebrating love and sharing in music making with wonderful humans. May we all know a love as true as .brown_ and .wunderluna.dabbs

Miko and I recorded this little bit at the end of the evening, him on a rattle made by Aumdoc Clofine and some clackers, me on the sopranino ocarina in F from (many thanks to for sending me a new one after my first one broke during Thankskipping!)

At selling window stars and other origami creations while teaching folks how to fold cranes. One young fella folded the blue water crane all by himself early on in the day!

The window stars help the birds know not to fly smack dab into the glass. πŸ¦πŸ–€πŸ¦‰

My crane supply is dwindling as my crane sabbatical continues into month 8 of 12. 18 Be Kind cranes are left from the display at Little River Roasting in January and February of 2019 where the I Ching tapestry hung along with my original 1000 cranes project. (One of the Be Kind cranes is tucked into my wallet to give to 🀘🏼✨)

I only have a palm full of the teeny tiny cranes left from the batch I started in the winter of 2019, folding a total of 768 of them. I made the final six strands over the weekend to take with me to Forward Festival (with plans in motion to make butterfly strands for Get Off the Grid Fest ! πŸ¦‹)

I keep on keeping on, practicing my craft every day: tending to myself, testing out oboe reeds, folding tiny creations, and helping out however I can. I tend to show up in periods of transition, so it helps that I am adaptable and exceedingly useful! 😘

See you in five!

I have arrived here on the wings of 5,000 origami cranes, thanks to hard work, determination, and patience.
Along with grace and kindness from countless folks who have loved me beyond measure...Even when I didn't know how to love myself.

Now is when I ask plainly for help:
Support my art and my future on Patreon, Origami Mami...of course.
Support my travel by purchasing origami creations.
Support my life my contributing directly via PayPal, CashApp, or Venmo
Even if you can only spare a pair of pennies.

My goal for the remainder of 2021 is to get 33 patrons to support my art. Will you be one of them?

Sign up to be a Peace Crane patron for $5 a month and receive a special origami piece made just for you plus the Fragments, a collection of poems that I wrote back in 2014. You'll also get access to other writings as I post them to the blog, sharing intimate details of my life and my process.

I've lived my life wide open for many years, and the biggest lessons I learned from my time on the farm were related to balance and boundaries. This is me staking my claim, speaking my piece, and claiming my peace.

Pictured: 1000 cranes of cigarette foil, 1000 cranes of small papers, 1000 cranes of tea tags, and about 600 additional cranes of small paper.

Links in comments to support the flight.

See you soon.
