This week, Iāve had the tremendous honor of being featured in my very first gallery exhibition in Georgetown, D.C.
Iāve spent time with the incredible owners of Ashe & Norton, Liz and Mary Pat, and Iāve been completely blown away by their knowledge, kindness, and unparalleled talent. Liz took me under her artistic wing this week, inviting me into her class on wrapping canvases and introducing me to some incredibly talented artists within the MFA program at the American University-Katzen Center for the Arts. Iāve learned, listened, created, and soaked in every moment.
And while Iāve been galavanting all over D.C., Tim and my mom have been the real MVPsāholding everything together at home so that I could fully step into this moment. Thank GOD for my tribe. They are simply the best.
Iāve also had the gift of spending precious time with my in-laws, making memories I know Iāll carry close to my heart forever. How lucky am I to have married into such a fabulous familyāwith extended in-laws who are just as amazing?
As I reflect on this collection, I realize that each piece gives me peace.
Creating these paintings was a journey. I considered every pathway, every choice, and dug deep to find the moments that made each piece different from the next. They are pieces of time when my heart has known happiness without contradictionāmoments when joy simply existed, without needing to be explained.
That feeling usually lives privately within my heart. But this collection, and the mission of Ashe & Norton, gave me the opportunity to share glimpses of those sacred spaces of stillness with all of you.
Tears that come through complete brokenness.
A really good hug.
The smell of freshly cut grass.
Turning the radio down.
Diving into the deep end and looking up at the sun reflecting through the water.
The familiar creak of a rocking chair as it moves back and forth.
These thingsāand so many moreābring me back to those soft, quiet moments where everything seems to become still.
I hope and pray that each of you has moments like these to live for. Moments that remind you that even amid all the noise, heartache, beauty, and chaos of being alive, there is still a quiet place within you.
Stillness lives within each of us.
Sometimes, we just have to find it.
