Emory Composers' Society It will serve as a space for music creators.

The purpose of the Emory Composers' Society (ECS) is to promote the appreciation and creation of new music, which includes but is not limited to classical, jazz, experimental, electronic, pop, mixed media, etc.

The sixth student composer we will be showcasing at the Fall 2022 Chamber Connections concert TONIGHT (woohoo) @ Underground Atlanta is Solomon Kim. The title of his piece is called Heat Lightning.

Solomon Young-joon Kim (b. 2001) creates inclusive artistic communities and compelling musical experiences. Currently, Solomon is studying at Emory University as a Robert W. Woodruff Dean's Achievement Scholar with Adam Mirza and Katherine Young. Additional instructors include composers, improvisers, and computer musicians such as David Ludwig, Reiko Fuëting, Melinda Wagner, Mari Kimura, George Tsontakis, Zhou Long, Christopher Dobrian, and Timuçin Sahin. He is a cellist in the Emory University Symphony Orchestra, with additional interests in conducted improvisation and contemporary performance.

The fifth student composer we will be showcasing at the Fall 2022 Chamber Connections concert TONIGHT (woohoo) @ Underground Atlanta is Eli Parrish. The title of his piece is called as it breathes so deeply.

Eli Parrish began his compositional career with a niche for wind instruments and symphonic bands. Eli’s music has been performed at universities, high schools, festivals, and venues across the Southeastern United States. His works for chamber groups, solo instruments, and large ensembles explore the intersections of storytelling, environmentalism, and sound-to-color. Eli’s approach to orchestration, use of dissonance, and texture stems from his background of studying and performing wind ensemble repertoire. As a student of Katherine Young and Adam Mirza, Eli frequently collaborates with other young composers in the Emory composition studio to curate showcases and workshops for new music.

The fourth student composer we will be showcasing at the Fall 2022 Chamber Connections concert THIS SATURDAY (tomorrow!!!) @ Underground Atlanta is Sawyer Gray. The title of his piece is called Everything's growing in our garden.

Sawyer Gray grew up in Starkville, Mississippi and recently graduated from Emory University with a bachelor of arts in Music. He is now based in Atlanta, where he plays guitar for different bands including We Are Damselflys, pioneers of the Southeast Emo sound, and the Atlanta Improvisers Orchestra. Both can be found on Bandcamp.

The third student composer we will be showcasing at the Fall 2022 Chamber Connections concert THIS SATURDAY NIGHT @ Underground Atlanta is Beverley Sylvester. The title of her piece is called Raindance.

Beverley is a recent Emory graduate with a BA in music composition and playwriting. She utilizes words, music, theater, and visual art to tell stories and explore the southern gothic genre. She can be found at her website, beverleyfsylvester.wixsite.com/yawp.

The second student composer we will be showcasing at the Fall 2022 Chamber Connections concert THIS SATURDAY NIGHT @ Underground Atlanta is Oiuwasijibomo Osunkoya! The title of his piece is called “Iji Lile”.

Oluwasijibomi Osunkoya is a junior at Emory University double majoring in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology along with Music Composition on the Pre-Medical track. He is a current member of the Emory University Symphony Orchestra and is studying viola under Professor Yinzi Kong, and has performed in Emory’s chamber music program for over two years. Before attending Emory University, he performed in ensembles such as the Emory University Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Georgia Music Educators Association All-State Orchestra, and the Gwinnett Country Youth Symphony Orchestra. At Emory, he is involved in the Emory Orchestral Students Association, Emory Composer’s Society, Music Advisory Board, and African Students Association.
