* commission is officially out of the kiln *
the process
} 30 lbs clay
} 60 hours of labor (across weeks)
} 2 hours in the car (bisque & glaze fire)
} entire creative freedom 😊
the look 👀
} 1 pint hot running chowder
} 2 dips chun plum
} 1 dip pebble beach
I planned, managed and completed this commission thru a Lupus flare up. I am so damn proud of myself. Exhausted, too. I can be both.
I’m sharing this for those who sometimes don’t understand the labor that goes into an artist’s work. Especially pottery. Drying time in a hot humid area is tricky. Trimming based on dryness has to be just right. I had one of my most reliable glazes cease on me AFTER application and I was devastated as I had to erase my glazing by sponging and chipping away piece by piece to try again. This was a labor of love but labor nonetheless.
I say this to say, please be compassionate when asking an artist for something. Don’t question our prices, they seem high but trust me, with cost of material sometimes were pricing wayyy lower than we should.
Anyway, I love what I do, which is create pots that make me happy. This beautiful soon to be bride and old colleague of mine (who was not only compassionate, patient and understanding, but gave me total creative freedom, so the exception to the above 😉) will be getting married on Juneteenth and THEEEESE ARE ALLLLL HERS 💕. I’m so happy for you, Nicole! I’m truly honored you chose me to be a part of your special day by creating something I love for you!
