When I told people I was going to a foreign country where I barely spoke the language, didn’t know anyone, as a woman..alone.. they couldn’t wrap their head around it 😆 It was an adventure and milestone as an explorer to me.
Traveling as a woman alone, The dangers don’t escape me.. Though they aren’t enough to deter me✨
If you aspire to travel but are afraid to do it alone.. here’s a couple of key things I keep in mind:
1. RESEARCH- and I don’t mean just generic Google searches. Find ways to connect with locals that live there or travelers that have been. Get a well rounded understanding of the customs, the monetary necessities, The areas, The culture.. I never travel alone where I haven’t gotten in contact with actual people who can advise.
2. PREPARE- know the documents and Covid restrictions and RESPECT The laws wherever you go. Know what you need to bring for the climate. Know if you need to exchange your money before your destination. None of these are things you want to find out at the airport.. TRUST ME.
3. JOIN TRAVEL GROUPS! 9.5 times out of 10, somebody has been where you are going. More importantly, somebody who LOOKS LIKE YOU has been there. If you were thinking of going somewhere, let’s not pretend you don’t need to know how well you are received in a particular area. I feel most comfortable getting travel advice from those that understand our unique considerations.. PLUS, it’s an easy way to socialize or make acquaintances before you even get to your destination.
