Using repurposed materials (things perceived as junk) ..Plastic, cardboard, sticks, fabric....are morphed into fantastical larger than life puppets that dance in parades, festivals...or unexpectedly appear at community events. We love to collaborate, building new artworks, sharing ideas and combining methods. Residencies are typically 2-4 weeks -- dedicated space is found, materials collected, other artists and community members are invited into the studio for an intensive and exciting art making experience. The core artists create the structure for the residency. Stations are set up where volunteers investigate different methods, materials...join in demonstrations by the artists or explore on their own. The artists create the structure- but do not tell participants what to do. The structure allows for freedom and permission to experiment. This approach taps into the individual interests of the participants. Dedication and enthusiasm, from the participants, is evident throughout the residency and crescendos during the final celebration! Arts for Ohio, The Ohio University Learning Communities, Ohio Arts Council and Stuart's Opera House/Nelsonville Music Festival have sponsored our projects.
