The convention brings hundreds of contestants each year to compete for $47,350 in cash prizes, including prize money for the top eight winners in each category. There are currently 20 different categories, including several fiddle and guitar categories, harmonica, mandolin, bluegrass banjo, dulcimer, old time singing, and buck dancing. The grand prize winner of the "Tennessee Valley Fiddle Champio
n" category is crowned the "Alabama State Fiddle Champion," along with "Alabama State Champion" titles for several other categories. Bring the kids and let them explore their passion for music in our kids' categories! Options include Beginner Guitar (12 and under), Beginning Mandolin (12 and under), Beginning Banjo (12 and under), Beginning Fiddler (10 and under), and Apprentice Fiddler (ages 11-15). In addition to the competitions, hundreds of musicians will participate in the numerous jam sessions conducted across the Athens State campus during the weekend. Many people camp in travel trailers and even tents during the event on University property. The convention also includes professional entertainment, food vendors, and over 150 traditional arts and crafts booths. These vendors feature many handmade and traditional items unique to the area. Convention proceeds support student scholarships and University projects. More information can be found at www.TVOTFC.org.
