Lay Park We are a community center near downtown Athens. We offer program opportunities for the community.

Athens' only downtown park, the seven-acre Lay Park is equipped with a gymnasium, full-service kitchen, multi-purpose rooms, game room, fitness room, dance room, a library, arts and crafts room, picnic shelter, playground, and much more.

You’re Invited! Help Celebrate Lay Park’s History!

The Athens-Clarke County Planning Department invites the community to attend the Thomas N. Lay Park & Community Center Historic Landmark Designation Open House!

Join us on Monday, October 19, from 2:00–3:30 PM at Lay Park Community Center to learn more about the rich history of our facility, explore the historic landmark designation process, and ask questions about this important milestone.

🏀 ACCLS Youth Basketball registration opens tomorrow!

Registration for ACC residents opens Saturday, October 3 at 9:00 a.m.

We have divisions for boys and girls ages 5–14, with weekday practices beginning in November and games running December through February.

Cooking Club Wednesdays at Lay Park!

Each Monday, our middle school afterschool students choose what they want to make during cooking club. Last week, they made homemade cinnamon rolls from scratch. This week, they made Chick-fil-A-inspired chicken sandwiches!

Athens-Clarke County Mayor Kelly Girtz stopped by to spend some time with our students, the Mayor read "Pete the Cat", answered their questions, and talked with them about the community they call home.

Last week was all about learning beyond the community center! Our middle school after-school students visited First Impressions Barbershop to learn about barbering, entrepreneurship and the many career opportunities available through the skilled trades.

Our Thomas Lay After School students had a blast welcoming UGA’s National Black Engineers Society (NBES)! Students explored engineering pathways, built catapults, and tested their designs by launching objects into buckets.
