🐝 Thinking About Getting Into Beekeeping? 🍯

For those of you thinking about getting into beekeeping, I want to share something I’ve learned firsthand: it’s not always as easy as it looks. Bees are wild insects, and no matter how much we do to help them, sometimes things are simply out of our control.

This year has been a challenging one for my hives. I’ve had two colonies destroyed when high winds knocked down very tall colonies loaded with honey. I’ve also dealt with extreme amounts of small hive beetles, which caused multiple colonies to abscond. On top of that, above-average rainfall and humidity have made it difficult for the bees to forage and properly dry the honey like they normally would.

The reality is, losses are part of beekeeping. That doesn’t make them any easier, but every loss is also an opportunity to learn.

So, if you decide to start your own colony, don’t get discouraged if you lose one. 🐝 Try again. Learn from what happened. Make adjustments. Keep going.

Beekeeping can be incredibly rewarding, but it takes patience, persistence, and a willingness to learn from both the successes and the failures.

Don’t let a bad season convince you that you can’t be a beekeeper. Sometimes the best lessons come from the toughest seasons. 🍯🐝
