in 1932, Amelia Earhart set the women’s record for the fastest non-stop transcontinental flight, completing a 2,477 mile journey in just 19 hours and 5 minutes. She proudly became the first woman to fly coast-to-coast, embarking from Los Angeles and landing in Newark. 150 well wishers greeted her in Newark to celebrate her new record.

She flew her "Little Red Bus," the same Lockheed Vega 5B that she flew over the Atlantic Ocean in May 1932. The Vega is on exhibit at the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum.

Catching up with the Amelia Earhart Association after their trip to Atchison✈️ I was delighted to be presented with a gift and a letter from the mayor of Atchison too. The association are doing brilliant work all voluntarily to keep the memory of Amelia alive and to strengthen the connection with Amelia’s home place❤️
