The climate of the times is defined by public action. In the last three years, thousands took to the streets for massive Women's Marches around the world. Our project, “The First International Festival Of Dionysus: the Voice Of Women” dares to bring forth words from ancient pages that have the power to not only address this social malaise but to heal it’s sickness of bigotry that is polluting the world with pure, unadulterated hate.
One of the most amazing things about theatre is its therapeutic power. The original intention of the lively arts was to rejuvenate the human spirit and thus heal the body.
The inception of Dionysus Fest will commence spring 2019 with two performances: TheBacchae by Euripides, often know as the perfect tragedy and its antithesis Atheophania by Dimitriadis – a world premiere. This alliance of international artistry will become an annual Greek theatrical tradition celebrating the feminine divine.
As audience members, we are provided the service of transportation to a new time and place - to witness the lives of fictional characters and hear their stories.
Ritual theatre is one of the most ancient forms of healing that is still practiced in tribal societies today. Since the earliest times, ancient people healed themselves and explored what they couldn’t understand about the world through dramatic ritual. Such were the beginnings of theatre. Much later, the Ancient Greeks developed these into Dionysian rites which eventually evolved into what we now know as theatre because the Greeks very clearly saw that it was necessary and healthy for the well-being of their society for emotions to be released through catharsis. This was the sole purpose of the performance. And yet, ritual theatre is even more important and relevant in contemporary life – and this is why we believe ritual theatre is coming back.
Our performances of “The Bacchae and Atheophania “ of live drama, in combination with Vortex Immersion Media and enhanced with original music, choreography and design will take us a step further beyond personal catharsis and into a collective meta-theatre fantasy where a transformative healing experience awaits.
Therefore, we will be the first ever to use Vortex Immersion Technology with live performance which will be streamed in 360 simultaneously in Greece and other venues as well.
With your interest and support, we can nurture a new world where all children can be happy and healthy. Thus part of our Festival proceeds will go to children’s charities like the National Schoolhouse for Theatre Arts, a new academic model for foster children.
The power of theatre allows us to begin again. We would like to meet you to hear your thoughts on this project and to see how we can work with you to further the dream of global unity so that no one has to live in fear of anyone else.
