The gallery is located in a 1920’s storefront in the downtown historic district, within strolling distance of restaurants, theaters, hotels, boutiques, museums and other galleries. RiverSea Gallery presents monthly exhibitions featuring individual artists or themed group shows. Throughout the year the gallery hosts poetry readings, receptions and special events tied to the creativity and spirit of the region.

Robert Gamblin’s new show “Mementos of Europe” opens tonight. In this show, Robert Gamblin brings together two passions: oil painting and exploring Europe. Over many years, while visiting historic sites and picturesque landscapes, he made at least one drawing each day on location, using watercolor, graphite, or ink. Back in his studio, he translated a select few of these studies into oil paintings, guided by the interplay of memory and marks on paper. An intrepid colorist, Gamblin’s palette changes with each painting as he uses color to express his emotional response to place and to evoke the beauty, mystery, and layers of history experienced in his travels. The show will be up through September 8th.

Kathy Tilley’s new show “In the Company of Women” opens tonight. Kathy Tilley’s evocative oil paintings are steeped in atmosphere and narrative. Through a series of dreamlike tableaux, she employs enigmatic female figures to allude to stories and relationships inspired by her upbringing in close-knit fishing communities in Washington and Alaska. Brimming with intrigue and nostalgic allure, these paintings honor the connections seated in memory that thread through our lives. The show will be up through September 8th.

Gail Owen’s hand-pulled linoleum relief prints draw inspiration from the lush natural surroundings of the Pacific Northwest. In a profusion of blooms and foliage, she captures botanical rhythms from garden and landscape, translating them into vibrant, graphic compositions. This retrospective exhibition gathers prints she’s created over the past twelve years. Her show “The Printed Garden” opens tonight and will be up through August 4th.

Kay Worthington presents just a slice of the 387 days she spent creating abstract collages from paper ephemera. In her daily art practice, she found that making these small, quick, randomly imperfect pieces grounded her and carried her through challenging times. As the days accumulated, the routine of letting go and rearranging on paper translated into more ease with handling the twists and turns of life. These light-hearted, intimate collages deftly pull together elements of typography, photography and illustration to dance between focused musings, random memories, and self-dialogue.

In this series, Sam turns to the same process she uses for figurative paintings and applies it to working with fabric and thread. In her usual intuitive style, she explores relationships between humans and their animal friends, effortlessly combining scrawling machine-stitched lines and text with energetic swathes of paint to compose emotive narratives. Most of all, she celebrates how much fun a crooked, uneven, messy, un-clipped embroidery project can be. Christopher St. John offers a collection of anthropomorphic clay sculptures titled, Emissaries. Shaped from local materials found near his Houston studio and brought into being through processes of electricity and fire, these sculptural works function as both object and transmitter. They sustain the mystery they carry, like a tone held in the air. What emerges is not a fixed message, but an encounter, a recognition that this world is already strange.

Breaking the Surface is a haunting solo exhibition of dreamlike watercolor paintings by Benz and Chang. Designed to resemble vintage photographs and early 20th-century portraiture, these works reveal unexpected details on closer inspection—twins, halos, ghost limbs, wings, and uncanny shadows that hint at deeper emotional narratives.

Blending historical realism with surreal imagery, Benz and Chang explores transformative human experiences including grief, fear, mortality, mystical encounters, and life-altering decisions. Every costume, gesture, and setting is meticulously researched, creating richly believable scenes that feel suspended between memory, dream, and the subconscious.

Breaking the Surface invites viewers into the haunted, mysterious corners of the human psyche where the familiar begins to shift into something strange and profound.

The show Nothing Gold Can Stay pairs the evocative work of Jill McVarish and Annie Becker, two artists connected by a shared fascination with childhood memory, storytelling, and the bittersweet passage from imagination into adulthood.

Through richly narrative oil paintings, McVarish captures toys, pets, and imaginary companions with humor and tenderness, reflecting on the deep emotional worlds children create.

Becker, transforms sculpted clay and weathered found objects into striking characters inspired by nursery tales and folklore. Her sculptures feel both familiar and transformed—figures marked by endurance, resilience, and the passage of time.
