And last but certainly not least, tonight marked our 4th week with our Teen Art Uncovered group.

The teens are currently in the middle of independent projects of their choosing, and watching them develop these ideas from concept to finished artwork has been so much fun.

They’re making creative decisions, solving problems, learning new skills, and creating work that genuinely reflects their interests and personalities.

The projects are turning out so awesome, and every week they seem to gain a little more confidence and momentum.

I can’t wait to see these pieces come together and watch everyone put the finishing touches on their work over the next few sessions.

This group continues to impress me.

Next up today was our Art Uncovered series, and this is honestly one of the coolest things happening at the studio this summer.

Every other week, we gather for a completely free community art event focused on creating something that gives back.

A couple weeks ago, participants created handmade bookmarks that will be donated to our local library for readers to discover and enjoy.

Tonight, we began work on a much larger project. One that will take multiple sessions to complete and, if all goes according to plan, will be enjoyed by our entire community.

One of the things I love most about this series is that it reminds us that art isn’t just something we make for ourselves. It can be a gift. It can create connection. It can make a place feel more welcoming, more beautiful, and more uniquely ours.

So for now, here’s a little sneak peek.

Any guesses what we’re working on?

If all goes well, it should be ready in time for our 3rd Annual Art Show for the entire community to enjoy.

Our K–5 artists did an awesome job today!

We spent time talking about shields and the stories they can tell. Each student dreamed up their own mythical character and then designed a shield that reflected that character’s personality, strengths, interests, and unique traits.

What I loved most was watching the students move from idea to creation. They had to think critically about who their character was, what symbols belonged on their shield, and how they wanted to communicate those ideas visually.

Projects like this are about so much more than art. They’re about storytelling, decision-making, problem-solving, and learning how to take something from your imagination and bring it into the world.

Every shield was completely different, and every student worked incredibly hard to make it their own.

Just a little behind the scenes update...

Like any truly loyal employee, I have spent the last two days secretly documenting Grace in her natural habitat as she tackles the DOMAS class schedules through December.

What appears to be a simple calendar is actually a complex puzzle involving approximately 7,432 moving pieces, countless revisions, strategic negotiations, and what I can only assume is some form of advanced wizardry.

The amount of planning, coordinating, changing, adding, subtracting, rearranging, and creating that goes into running this studio is absolutely wild.

Grace is fully in the trenches. Meanwhile, I, a mere mortal, have been contributing at my highest level: throwing out random ideas, nodding supportively, and occasionally offering snacks.

It has been fascinating to witness. Sometimes inspiring. Sometimes confusing. Often entertaining.

So here's a big thank you to Grace for everything she does for our artistic community. We appreciate your hard work, admire your dedication, and are continually amazed by your ability to somehow keep all the plates spinning.

We're grateful for all the "going through it" you do so the rest of us can show up and make art.

Ok, I got some REALLY amazing news last night! 😍

I so badly want to share the good news, but I can't just yet. So instead I'm going to leave you a little riddle with clues 🔎

🔎PICTURE this: you walk into the coziest space that immediately brings you an overwhelming sense of calm. You are going to take one hour to explore, reflect, and create. You notice stacks of BOOKS all around you! Just reading their TITLES draws you into the STORY. Through conversation and discussion of stories, you begin to think of your own life. You remember times of healing, inspiration, clarification, compassion, and connection. You begin to write down all of these memories and then it all makes sense - THIS IS A STORY! Yes, you have a story to tell.

When I tell you that you NEED to sign up for our Author Adaptations Summer Series, I REALLY, REALLY mean it! Come to one class or come to all, I promise you it will be worth it!

Bonus Clue 🔎 - The AUTHOR of the book I'm using for discussion has been following along with our posts about this series is taking place. He loves it, and he will be supporting each session in a unique way. ❤️

Another successful handmade paper class completed. Just look at these beautiful designs!
We always have so much fun and everyone tells me how relaxing it is. I agree. I keep these classes small so that they feel very intentional, everyone has time to ask questions, think through processes and, time to experiment.

Adding something a bit new in August if you would like to join us.
