Founded in 1953 by Katherine Hill in her family's home, the Ashtabula Arts Center has grown to be acknowledged as one of the finest arts centers in the state of Ohio. Classes and performances in the areas of dance, drama, and music, along with classes and monthly exhibits in the visual arts areas pack a full schedule of offerings throughout each year. A nonprofit organization, the Ashtabula Arts C

enter is dependent upon donations, memberships, and grants to continue and to grow its programs and operations. Individual and/or family memberships initiates the donor to various benefits depending upon the level of donation. Of course, becoming a member of the Ashtabula Arts Center is not the only way you can make donations to us. The arts center gladly accepts cash donations of any size at any time. We are also most appreciative of donations of volunteer time. Numerous opportunities for all sorts and types of volunteering abound, from skilled help like carpenters, electricians, graphic artists, and scene painters, to help in the forms of ushering for shows, staffing the concession stand, helping process large mailings, assisting with "Kid's Days" and other art projects, and so forth.

Last call to register for Broadway Bound, a musical theater camp for ages 12-15 beginning this Monday, June 22! Lights, camera… STAGE TIME! In this high-energy camp, young performers will explore musical theatre through acting games, voice work, and dance numbers from popular Broadway shows. Campers will build confidence, stage presence, and teamwork while preparing a mini musical r***e to share with friends and family at 3:30pm on the final day out on our lawn!

There are still a few open spots in Multi-Arts Camp for grades 1-6! This year's camp will be producing and performing "Go Fish!" Kids will dip their toes into musical theater, dance, and visual arts as they learn dialogue, songs, choreography, and create set and costume pieces, all leading up to a performance of this mini-musical on Friday, July 17 at 10 a.m., on stage in Straw Hat Theatre!

Multiarts Camp: Go Fish!
3 weeks beginning June 29, Mon-Fri, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
for grades 1-6
$377 camp fee, $25 material fee
Financial aid is available!
Students should bring water and a packed lunch each day, and will need to bring a white cotton t-shirt to tie dye for the performance (Miss Nancy, the visual arts teacher, will let you know when they need to bring shirts to camp.) Students will be painting costume and set pieces, so clothing and shoes for camp should be mess-friendly!

Throughout this six-week course, students will not only craft and workshop their own poems, but also learn about the importance of poetry being spoken. Speech and poetry writing techniques, articulation, and performance will be emphasized.

Everyone has stories to tell, and the compressed structure of narrative poems and micro-fiction can harness these stories with concision, power, and eloquence. We will read masterful examples and use writing prompts to generate our own personal narratives. Writers can experiment with both poetry and prose, learning how lineation can achieve various artistic effects.
