Our Mission: To celebrate the diversity of human experiences through the art of independent film by enriching, educating, and inspiring all audiences. Founded in 2001, the Ashland Independent Film Festival (AIFF) screens films at the intimate art-deco Varsity Theatre and the AIFF Film Center with special events at the Ashland Springs Hotel, ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum, and throughout Ashland.

Taking place this Saturday at 8:30 p.m., join Big Dog Studio for an extra special screening of Rocky Horror Picture Show. The Hole Story is coming to... THE VARSITY THEATRE!

Screened during our 2025 Spring Film Festival, The Hole Story is an award-winning local documentary film about a mysterious sixty-foot hole discovered on Mount Shasta, directed by Elijah Sullivan. Recently highlighted on the Jefferson Exchange on Jefferson Public Radio, the documentary begins as an investigation into the hole, but expands into an exploration of Mount Shasta’s culture and the myths that surround the mountain.

The Hole Story will begin screening at the Varsity Theatre on Friday, September 18 at 7:15 p.m. with a Q+A that night. Congratulations, Elijah!

Pssst... Call for Entries for our 2027 Spring Film Festival OPEN NEXT WEEK!

Filmmakers, grab a pen and paper or whatever you use to keep track of all of your important dates and deadlines and MARK THESE ONES! Recognized twice as one of the '25 Coolest Film Festivals in the World' and twice for 'Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee' by MovieMaker Magazine, and now on FilmFreeway's very own 'Trailblazers List', we have always been known for our warm hospitality and the exceptional quality of our programming, a festival beloved by both filmmakers and audiences alike.

The Hole Story is PREMIERING in MOUNT SHASTA!

Screened during our 2025 Spring Film Festival, The Hole Story is an award-winning local documentary film about a mysterious sixty-foot hole discovered on Mount Shasta. Directed by Elijah Sullivan, the film blends local lore, community speculation, conspiracy, and a coming-of-age narrative to explore the social and ecological consequences of the discovery. And, due to popular demand, Mt Shasta Cinemas has added a couple more days to experience this incredible film. If you're in the area this weekend, be sure to check it out.
