"I'm entering a phase where I really only want to do something if it means I get to play with someone I've always wanted to play with... When a work of art plucks a string hidden deep within us and continues to resonate like that, it's affirming." — John Tufts in Ashland.news. (https://ashland.news/curtain-call-actor-john-tufts-takes-on-a-summer-of-contrasts/)

Theater at its best is about profound connection. For our upcoming production of Constellations, the stars have aligned to bring a powerhouse New York creative team to our intimate Ashland stage.

With award-winning director Emily Moler steering the ship, and real-life couple John Tufts and Christine Albright embodying the script, this production promises to pluck those strings within all of us. It is funny, heartbreaking, and fiercely smart.

And the resonance doesn't stop there. On August 4, the connection comes full circle when Christine directs John in a special benefit performance of An Iliad, bringing back the gripping, virtuosic storytelling that left Rogue Valley audiences spellbound when he last performed this play for Rogue Theater Company in 2023.

“Right now, I feel like I'm at the base of a very tall mountain. I've climbed some of this mountain before, but apparently someone just added another peak since I climbed it last. So mostly, right now, I'm just trying to breathe..." — John Tufts

This summer, John Tufts is pushing his craft at Rogue Theater Company.

First, he stars in Constellations (July 15 – Aug 2), navigating a complex, fast-paced contemporary romance across parallel universes with his wife Christine Albright under the direction of NYC's Emily Moler. Then, just two days later on August 4, he takes the stage entirely alone for a massive, heavy-hitting benefit revival of An Iliad—a torrent of epic poetry, war history, and live cello accompaniment by Michal Palzewicz.

From the quiet, fragile intimacy of modern love to the blood and sweat of ancient Troy. Two completely different modes of storytelling. One incredible actor. Ashland audiences are in for a momentous summer of theater.

"My biggest hurdle in every rehearsal process is the initial lack of confidence I always feel... After 20 years together, I can read Chris's mind and I know for certain she thinks I'm OK, so at least that hurdle is cleared." — John Tufts on acting opposite his wife, Christine Albright. Director Emily Moler will be taking this real-life chemistry and pushing it into dazzling new territory. Emily is renowned for creating brave, joyful rehearsal spaces, helping to bring out magic and nuances of each character.

In Constellations, she guides John and Christine through a fast-paced, multi-verse puzzle of love, grief, and comedy. John plays Roland with a rare sensitivity and openness. It’s a beautiful, intimate contrast to the bold energy he brings when performing alone on stage.

You can witness the full scale of that contrast this summer! Catch John sharing the stage with Christine in Constellations (July 15 – Aug 2), then watch him inhabit over a dozen characters as the sole actor in Homer’s epic An Iliad (Aug 4), directed by Christine herself.

See what happens when masterclass acting meets visionary direction!! Tickets for both productions are available now!

"We often ponder the alternate realities of our shared life. We ask ourselves, 'Was this the right decision to make?' 'What if we'd stayed in this town over that town?'" — John Tufts

In Nick Payne’s Constellations, characters Roland and Marianne map out the infinite paths a single relationship can take. What makes this 3-week run so extraordinary is that John Tufts is sharing these "what-ifs" with his real-life wife, Christine Albright, for the first time on stage together in 13 years.

Under the sharp, visually imaginative direction of Emily Moler, this production isn’t just a sci-fi concept—it’s a deeply human, tender, and witty exploration of the choices that define us.

And if you want to see just how deep their artistic chemistry goes....Immediately following the run of Constellations, Christine will step into the director's chair to guide John in a ONE AFTERNOON ONLY revival of An Iliad on August 4.

Come explore with us how a single choice can echo through time.
