For over 40 years as president of Pacific Domes, Inc, I have had the great pleasure of building an American Manufacturing company that has become the industry standard in Geodesic Structure Manufacturing and Installation. Pacific Domes is the original dome company to design and manufacture geodesic structures in the USA, and we continue to call Ashland Oregon our home. We are the Industry leader in the fabrication of Geodesic structures and Event Tents, including our amazing Projection Theaters. How do geodesic domes handle high winds? 💨

It starts with the shape. A dome has no flat walls for wind to push against, so the wind flows around its curved surface instead of hitting it head-on. Because the frame is a network of triangles, any force that does hit the dome is spread across the whole structure.

Our frames are galvanized steel and come in four tubing sizes (Standard, Heavy Duty, Burly and Extreme), so each dome can be matched to your local wind load. Anchors are supplied to secure the frame to concrete, earth, asphalt or a deck, and our engineering team customizes frames for extreme-weather areas.

Pacific Domes frames are made to endure hurricane winds up to 100 mph.

What kind of floor does a geodesic dome need? It depends on how long you plan to stay. 🏡

We offer three floor plans for our geodesic dome kits:

🪵 Stationary joist floor: a solid, built-in floor that's perfect for long-term living
🥧 Portable "pie piece" deck: comes apart in sections, so you can take it down and move it easily
⭕ Perimeter plan: made for a nomadic lifestyle, pairing a perimeter board with a heavy-duty vinyl floor to create a waterproof barrier

Why does the dome shape matter in snow, wind and weather? 🔺

✔️ Strength: a geodesic dome is made of triangles, so loads from snow or wind are spread across the entire frame instead of resting on a few beams
✔️ Wind: there are no flat walls to catch the wind, so it flows around the curved surface
✔️ Snow: there's no flat roof for snow to pile up on
✔️ Efficiency: a dome encloses a lot of space with less surface area, so there's less exposed to the elements
✔️ Open space: no interior support poles, so the whole floor is yours to use

That's why geodesic domes use less material to cover more space while standing up to the elements.

What does the inside of a geodesic dome house actually look like? Like this. 🏡

High ceilings leave room for a loft above and living space below. Round windows bring in light from every angle, the bay window looks straight out to the trees, and the insulated liner keeps the whole space cozy, with a soft quilted look you can see on the walls.

Add a hanging chair, a few plants and some warm wood floors, and a dome becomes home.

Yes, when the frame is sized for where you live.

A geodesic dome is built from a network of triangles, so the weight of snow on the roof is shared across the whole frame instead of resting on a few beams. There's no flat roof for snow to pile up on, and no interior poles holding it up.

Our frames are rust-resistant galvanized steel, made to handle heavy snow loads. We offer four frame tubing sizes (Standard, Heavy Duty, Burly and Extreme), so your dome can be matched to your local snow and wind load. For areas with extreme weather, our engineering team customizes the frame.

It's the triangles. A geodesic dome spreads weight across its whole frame, so it stays strong while using less material than most structures.

Our frames are galvanized steel, and we offer different tubing sizes depending on your snow and wind load. Anchor plates hold the frame in place, and the architectural fabric covers are waterproof, flame and mildew resistant, and easy to clean.
