The rain continued all day, but at sunset the western sky cleared enough to drop a sunset that promised a clearing tomorrow. I switched from watercolor to gauche. Although water based, gauche can be applied like much like oil paints. I am happier with results. If painting quick studies, I think I’ll go with gauche for the rest of this trip. I don’t pretend to be a water colorist; however, for quick studies while traveling, this sketch box kit is perfect for urban sketching. Accommodating a 4x6 pad, a basic array of colors, mixing area on lid, film canisters for water, it easily fits into a small shoulder bag that allows me stand, hold paper and paint without a lot of fanfare.
