Our Story

My name is Vindara and I’m a professional mermaid located in the mountains of Asheville, NC. I have been in the military for over 15 years and been overseas for 3 years in Iraq. Upon, returning home and now a disabled veteran, I took to the water because that is where I can loose myself under the surface and all my worries float away. I have certifications in Lifeguard, Scuba Diving and Free Diving and these have helped me to create my mermaid persona, Neela Del Ray. With her I can reach out to entertain and educate people on Marine Conservation issues with the fun and whimsy side of all ages.

I work with my local dive shop Bermuda Dive Shop in Asheville to help with scuba lessons, the marine life specialty courses and teach mermaid lessons. I also work with Patriots for Disabled Divers to help other veteran getting into scuba diving. So they can feel the calming and therapeutic benefits of being in the water.

I have had some magical and awe inspiring experiences. I have been on research trips to Italy and Africa to learn more about the education on dolphins, whales and sharks. I love to swim around with other mermaids from different areas of the country. Make life long friends with the same passion as you keeps the adventure going.
