Hey friends, Amanda here.
Today at ReMix It was the kind of day I’ve been thinking about since I first filed our paperwork to get open. It was a little hectic, but thanks to the kindness of volunteers, teachers, neighbors, our staff and friends, we had a day full of low-cost (or free!), low-barrier ways to make art with donated goods.
I watched folks create something amazing with an old T-shirt in partnership with Goodwill Of Northwest NC, friends and neighbors walk around their neighborhood supporting each other and all the hard work it takes to maintain a garden while painting some rocks with us for the West Asheville Garden Stroll. We finished the day with pure creativity and whole worlds being built before my eyes with Craig Carpenter.
Not to mention all the people who came into the store for the first time, or the 10th. Full of passion and excitement for what having a store like this means to so many.
It was the kind of day that drives home the why.
Why work so hard? Why take the time and intention to make the spaces that we want to see?
Because it matters. Because it’s true community. And I’m here for it.
