An Asheville Icon, The Cotton Mill is one of the oldest structures in the River Arts District. Built in 1887, the two-story brick factory produced denim and flannel, and it’s heyday employed over 300 people most of whom lived above this riverfront property in the Chicken Hill neighborhood. The Cotton Mill building survived The Great Flood of 1916, The Great Depression, shut it’s doors in 1953, and

was almost destroyed by fire in 1995. Presently, this turn of the century industrial property of cultural, historic, and architectural significance is at the center of the creative River Arts District. Artist studios, art galleries, and a local music venue now call The Asheville Cotton Mill home.

Our hearts are heavy sharing that our friend Chris from Red Rabbit Tattoo—a beloved member of the Cotton Mill family—has just been diagnosed with a high grade glioma, a fast-growing, aggressive brain tumor.

Chris and his family have always been part of the creative spirit that made the Cotton Mill and River Arts District Artists, Asheville special. Now he needs the support of the same community that he helped build.

If you’re able, please consider contributing to his GoFundMe and sharing it with others. Every bit helps as he focuses on treatment and healing.

Let’s show Chris, Daisy, and Bianca Sky the strength of this community that has carried all of us through so much. Please follow his wife Daisy Chavers for updates on his condition. ❤️
