Dark SynthRiot artist and DJ, Violent Vickie, hails from Los Angeles but is currently located in Tampa, FL. Vickie has toured with Hanin Elias and performed alongside a range of artists such as Pastel Ghost and Missing Persons.

Kangarot is a hardware synth performance that merges EBM, industrial, and Krautrock influences. Drawing inspiration from iconic horror film directors like John Carpenter, their distinctive sound weaves a captivating, gritty tapestry of dark descent.

Blood Orchid, an American alternative rock and indie pop project, blends dark smooth club beats, thrash metal, and psychedelic pop. Originating in Miami, Florida in 2019, this project was created by the multi-talented musician Niko Javan , crafting a dark and atmospheric vibe.

Cemetery S*x, a newly introduced four piece goth band from Washington, D.C , blends horror elements and gothic theatrics. Drawing inspiration from a mix of music genres, especially post-punk, gothic rock, and doom metal, Cemetery S*x embodies a unique style known as death-rock with a somber, doom influence.

Torvus, a Gothic Metal band originating from Washington DC, blends traditional heavy metal and doom metal with touches of post-punk, goth, hard rock, and occasionally extreme metal influences.

Here we are, with Flora Ocean Tiger Bloom, an album completed by an ironclad will and steely determination. It’s also Meatbodies’ most ambitious, varied, and realized record to date—and possibly their finest hour. A massive step forward, both by conventional standards and considering its tumultuous path toward completion, the album is finally set for release on March 8, 2024 via In the Red Records.

Besides the obvious themes of redemption, reinvention and resurrection that not only accompany the record, but its production as well, Flora Ocean Tiger Bloom examines themes surrounding love and loss, escapism, defeatism, hedonism, psychedelics and much more. “The last record was more of a cartoon version of who we were– simple and fun without delving into heavy concepts,” recalls Ubovich. "The whole thing before with Meatbodies was never sit down, next part, next part, but I wanted to make something with more depth. After everything that had happened, and my personal life, I was left with this feeling of emptiness and loss. So I wanted to make music that was absent from things– songs that were more about conveying feeling.”

GOODBYE 701 !!

So last year our entire building of 701 Haywood was put up for sale by our landlords & the beloved owners of The Mothlight. We were told it was listed as fully rented which gave a small glimpse of hope that not only Different Wrld, but the other tenants in the building would be able to stay after the sale. The building officially sold about a month ago & after a few discussions with the new buyers they told us & three other tenants they wouldn’t be renewing our lease in order to pursue a better use for the space. We are sure it’s every local business owner's worst nightmare to be pushed out by developers, but we have seen so many other important spaces navigate this same hurdle & so will we!

We have our eyes on a sexy little space & we are planning some pop up parties & shows while we transition but we are gonna need y’alls help getting there !! We have been grassroots since the beginning & will continue to build on the support of those who have caught the vision & understand the importance of black owned, q***r, trans & femme lead spaces especially in the south.

Even though we are up & running, it can take up to 3 years for any small business to turn a profit so unexpected moves throw a wrench in things. So yes we do need some support to make this transition happen, we have budgeted needing around $25 to $30k. We are proactively awaiting our official timeline for our new space but we are ready to go! we are talking more strategy with our fiscal sponsor & we are gonna post more fundraising updates this week but a little help from our support system would go a long way.

We have always known the vision of Different Wrld exist beyond a brick + mortar, in fact it’s inspired by so many of you, local creatives, our personal experiences, & a love for trying to do things a little different.
