We’d like to invite you to a poetry open mic this Sunday, March 29th, at 5pm EST. It is going to be a short(er) meeting, so we will be inviting most likely one or two poems shared by each person. hey everyone! as you may know, last month we found out *the night of* our monthly open mic that the venue we hosted at has CLOSED! we’re taking a break this month while we try to sort our plans out for APS - but we’ll update you soon about where we may host the event in november & beyond!! thanks so much for understanding, & hope y’all are feeling creatively abundant 🙃 looking forward to experience yr writings soon, xx honey d

Hey poetry people! Hailey here. so we just found out TODAY that our usual hosting location is now closed for the foreseeable future... after learning this, Calum & I were going to host at our house because I believe in the power of people reading poetry & wanted to honor our event. However, I've been feeling sick all week and only a couple people responded from our event page to get our address. in this case, I'm gonna call it off, though we'll DEFINITELY be hosting our monthly open mic again somewhere next month, with or without a "proper" venue. We'll update you as soon as we know the details. Thank you

nothing like partying on a friday night in asheville by drinking mochas at 7-9 at night & sharing poetry thru a sh*tty mic/amp at a well-lit coffee shop in WAVL. all the while, caffeine(anxiety?)-induced sweat trickles down from yr armpit & you try to steady yr hands when it's yr turn on the mic, but it's too late because everyone can see yr phone/journal shake in yr grasp. it's okay, though, because nobody gives a frick. we're trying to trick ourselves into being comfortable with vulnerability, and i guess it's working. or, i guess i can only speak for myself... see you friday.

As the mighty calendar year of 2018 reaches its final days, we want to take a moment to recap our first year in action & ask for your input!

Alive Poets Society was founded by honey d (Hailey), Abbie, & Andrew on Valentine's Day while secretly eating vegan cupcakes in Hailey's car at Noble Kava's open mic. We decided we wanted to host an event where we could more intentionally share our poetry, & open the floor for others to join us.

Our first event was organized for the end of February, where we packed the room FULL of poets & observers alike for quite a magical night of vulnerability & support. We felt it was important & valuable to continue hosting each month with a dedication for poets & writers. Here we are, 11 events later, now with our dear, idiosyncratic Calum becoming more involved. Here we are, still ~totally~ feeling warm, fuzzy, & such admiration for all of YOU who show up with us to indulge in sweet, sometimes uncomfortable/challenging, vulnerability.
