Introducing our Community Outreach Coordinator:

Missy has been with us since January! You may have seen her in the background taking photos and video for marketing and working to provide a cozy, creative vibe.

She is managing our marketing, social media, and community partnerships.

A little more about Missy:

Missy Bell, Community Outreach Coordinator, is privileged to be a part of Story Parlor's Team. She holds a Master of Arts in Creativity Studies from Union Institute and University with a concentration in Adolescent Development, alongside a BA in English Literature and Secondary Education from Messiah University (formerly Messiah College). She landed at Story Parlor after living multiple other dreams: Theatre Teacher at Chopticon High School (St. Mary's County Schools, Maryland), Founding Member of The Black Market Theatre Company (Mechanicsburg, PA), Founding Member and Board Secretary at the Newtowne Players, School Bus Full-Timer, Homeschool Mom (18 years), Creative Director of Artsvine (monthly online arts publication), Board Secretary for Anam Cara Theatre Company (Asheville, NC), Member of Accordion Time Machine (Anam Cara's Avant-Garde Theatre Ensemble), stage director of over fifty theatrical productions, and Mentoring Director with the Montford Moppets.

Currently, Missy spends most of her time in the film industry as a director, making films about people who are ready to step off the ledge. Her latest feature film, Erased, is currently on the festival circuit and will premiere in Asheville this August (2026) at the Wortham Center for the Performing Arts. In addition to this feature, her resume includes 14 award winning short films. When she isn't at Story Parlor, she runs her own creative village: Mouse House Productions - creating efflorescent films about metamorphic human journeys.

In the life that borders the creative grind, Missy enjoys hiking, kayaking, watching turtles, drinking coffee with friends, and building intentional community.

You can reach Missy for your community partnership, marketing, and social media needs at [email protected]

Tonight, your Story Parlor Weekend begins!

Our sold out show, Let it Be Easy, features Tom Jeffords and Andy Collins as they present original stories and poetic musings never before seen or heard by the public. They are happy to share the stage with a couple of other storytellers: global sound artist Langston Kelly and writer/poet/creative facilitator Erin Hallagan Clare.

Saturday, with VERY few tickets remaining, you still have a chance to experience The Conference of the Birds: a retelling of the Sufi Folktale, featuring music, puppetry, and a chance to connect with your ancestors. This show begins at 7pm and will end at 10pm, with one intermission. ($25)

Sunday Sessions fill out the weekend with Show and Tell on Saturday morning at 10am and our Creativity Mixer Saturday evening. ($10 at the door)

Book Launch for The Persephone Project by Alli Marshall

Sunday, June 7, 1-3 p.m. at Story Parlor
FREE event as part of Story Parlor’s Sunday Sessions!

Join us for a reading, book signing, Persephone-inspired music, treats, and surprises. Dress as your inner goddess! Flower crowns appreciated.

About the book:

A contemporary retelling of the Persephone myth in chapbook form.
Following a divorce, Sef moves back to Silver Lake, the mountain town where she grew up. Her plan is to live in her mother's pool house while she gets back on her feet, but her mother has other plans. Silver Lake's lush surrounding wilderness is besieged by forest fires and the unseasonably warm winter is only adding to the environmental crisis. Someone must bring winter back in order to restore balance and Sef's eccentric mother thinks Sef should take on that bewildering mission.

About Alli:

Alli Marshall is a writer and artist based in Asheville. She received an MFA from Goddard College and is a creative facilitator certified through the Inward & Artward School of Creativity. She’s the author of How to Talk to Rockstars, The Persephone Project, and numerous zines. Many of her best friends are trees.
