It’s hard to put into words what this current reality is. I’ve understood now more than ever that a part of dividing us is to ensure we question everything based on a gripping headline or “I heard”. And I don’t intend on showing you pictures of puppies in an attempt to distract you from the absolute devastation our fellow neighbors are enduring and losing their lives for by taking care of their neighbor, but rather to maybe build a bridge of understanding that the ripples of this go beyond what we are all seeing. My sweet pup Otis and his siblings come from the most loving, kind hearted people who have had their lives uprooted for simply wanting better AND trying to do it the right way. When I got a message from the parents of the dogs that had pups that she wasn’t curious about Otis, but this time instead curious if I or anyone else could take her dogs because her husband had been detained and she wasn’t allowed to bring them to her new spot. His eyes…. They are the sort of eyes that make you automatically feel like you’ve been given a hug. His smile so warm and hers, like a bowl of nourishing soup. Her life has been uprooted and in turn two amazing dogs also would have a new life of uncertainty. What’s happening in Minneapolis IS happening everywhere else as well. It may not be as emboldened but my point is this is not out of the ether of being any one of our realities. As Haunt begins to have roots, one thing I know is that roots of kindness, morality and standing up for what’s wrong will be a pillar. is a safe place that hopes to learn and grow beside my fellow neighbors and hopefully be a space of safety for all. My heart breaks for Renee Nicole Goodes loss. My heart breaks for Alex Pretti’s loss. This should not be, but what I hope is also understood is that the ripples of this go far beyond human loss, criminals or whatever other lies are being emboldened. These are good people losing their dreams. These are animals without homes. There are ripples I imagine we can’t even comprehend yet. I understand this can make people identities feel threatened or judged. I see this about moral compass. Fear is scary, but to me regret is even scarier.
