American Folk Art & Framing Contemporary Self-Taught & Folk Art; including Painting, Face Jugs, Wood-fired Pottery, & Sculpture

Because contemporary folk art is so expressive, colorful and full of emotion it is important to select artists whose work is acclaimed as well to acknowledge new talent. We love narrative in paintings, and that feeling of being welcomed to a community, a home, an artist's life. The self-taught artist is brave: with no training to fall back upon, their heart, resourcefulness and natural born talen

t shines through. Additionally, Southern folk pottery traditions run deep and wide in this region; our focus is on potters who are still employing wood-fired kilns and hand-digging their own local clay and glaze materials (aka ‘wild clay'). The famous clay communities are all represented--Penland School, Seagrove, Asheville, the Catawba Valley as well as a few face jug makers from the mountains of Georgia. Several of our potters are making stoneware tableware sets, and all of our potters are creating pieces that are both functional and beautiful. We represent over forty artists from across the South and Deep South, folks whose paintings and pottery will bring an other special story to your home and life.

Pottery fans rejoice! Ben J North recently came for a visit and brought us a whole new selection of his fabulously off-beat work!

Snakes, skulls, poison jars, devils, and the horrors of tax day all await you on our website. Ben certainly knows how to poke fun at the worries the world can throw at us and make something beautiful out of the chaos.

What are y'all doing next Friday night? 'Cause you should be coming out for First Friday!

On Friday, September 4th, you'll have your pick of fabulous galleries, shops, and more to visit from 5-8PM with plenty of snacks and bevvies on offer! PLUS we'll be hosting Poetry On Demand by:Eddie Cabbage & his trusty typewriter and you'll be able to commission a custom on-demand poem while you're here in the gallery! Any subject you like, typed while you wait!

Big thanks to The Laurel of Asheville for writing up a beautiful article about Eddie's visit to the gallery for their September issue. He's been on the road raising money to rebuild after Hurricane Helene and we couldn't be prouder to help one of our own on his journey!

Shew! Last night was a barn burner, y'all!

Big thanks to what felt like the entire city of Asheville showing up for our shindig, and to these two cowboys for bringing the vibes and wearing such excellent boots!

Lonestar State of Mind will be on view in the gallery through August 26th, so if you haven't had a chance to see it yet, you've got time! Sadly, the Dinky Machine will be heading back to Texas with Carl today, but we'll still have dinky jugs available! Just holler at your girl!

Did y'all know you can just order you a tumbleweed off the internet?? Come on by tomorrow for our Lonestar State of Mind shindig and see how dang adorable it is!

Join us in the gallery from 5-8PM and you'll be able to meet both Carl Block & Jackson Hammack in the flesh (and maybe even a few more of our artists), enjoy snacks & bevvies, and snag yourself a dinky face jug from Carl Block’s world famous Dinky Machine! Everyone's a winner! Roll a lucky skull, you get to roll again!

It's also First Friday, so you'll be able to cruise around visiting art galleries, charming shops, and vibrant areas of downtown. You can grab a Passport Card at any of the participating locations and collect a stamp at each stop for a chance to win a really cool art-themed raffle package!
