We’re deeply honored to welcome Mdou Moctar back to AyurPrana Listening Room for an intimate solo performance on Friday, September 18th.

His last two appearances with us sold out quickly, and those of you who were there know just how unforgettable those performances were. To experience an artist of Mdou’s caliber in the warmth of our listening room is something truly special - a chance to connect with his music in a way that’s increasingly rare.

If you’ve been hoping to see him, we encourage you not to wait. This will be an extraordinary evening, and we’re grateful that APLR gets to be part of his journey once again.

Tickets are available now.

🪩⚡️ Learn more about the local artists featured at SUBMERGE this Friday, August 21st.

⚡️ BABY COUSIN TAY TAY explores electronic music through the lens of a black femme from the South and creates a space to engage with sound in mind, body and spirit.

⚡️ If you’ve been aware of Asheville, NC, artist Ross Gentry’s career over the past 15-plus years, his choosing “Observance” as a moniker won’t raise an eyebrow. Gentry’s music is deep and immersive, and a defining characteristic of it all is a willingness to let sounds slowly uncurl at their own pace. With Observance, he’s still adept at building ornamented worlds, now using dub techno as their blueprint.

⚡️ Julianna Chioma is a Nigerian-American interdisciplinary artist based in Asheville. Working across painting, textiles, sculpture, ceramics, and illustration, her practice investigates transformation, embodiment, and the ways cultural memory is carried through material, myth, and narrative. Drawing from Nigerian folklore, cinema, and craft traditions, she creates psychologically charged works that exist between the familiar and the imagined.

⚡️ DaveyBake discovered a deep love for dub techno and roots dub working for record stores and going to club nights in NYC in the late 90s/ 2000s. It’s always an adventure taking a spin from his vast record collection. This night will bring waves of deep murky bass and eclectic rhythms and sounds.

⚡️ Black Cat Sound System was founded in 2020 in South Florida, a full service sound reinforcement and production company now based right here in the mountains. We provide turnkey production packages for events of all sizes from intimate DJ nights to outdoor festivals. The heart of our system is a hand built, one of a kind rig crafted by Jungle Skankin, powered by NST processing for clean, accurate, and powerful sound.

APLR & Lonesome Station Present: Maya De Vitry with special guest Lyle De Vitry Saturday, October 17th!

Originally from the green rolling hills of Lancaster County, PA, Maya de Vitry is a Nashville-based fiddler-turned-songwriter with a voice that glides effortlessly between tenderness and strength. Her earliest years in the music industry are represented by the 4 full-length albums and 2 EPs with roots-Americana trio The Stray Birds, with whom she toured year-round for 7 years throughout USA, Canada, and Europe. After this formative chapter, she launched her solo career with her 2019 album Adaptations, earning praise from Rolling Stone Country, NPR Music, and No Depression. Since then, she has released three more full-length albums—How to Break a Fall (2020), Violet Light (2022), and The Only Moment (2024); an EP, Infinite (2023); and multiple singles, all of which are testaments to her personal reinvention and creative growth.

Opening the evening is acclaimed songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Lyle De Vitry, whose rich blend of folk and classical influences creates deeply moving, emotionally resonant music.

Join us for an unforgettable evening of inspired songwriting and intimate live performance from Maya and Lyle. Tickets on sale now!

🪐 This year marks 100 years since John Coltrane’s birth, so AyurPrana Listening Room is teaming up with URSA Asheville, a local nonprofit bringing adventurous, first-rate jazz to Asheville, to celebrate one of his most radical recordings: Interstellar Space. 🪐

Recorded just months before Coltrane’s death, Interstellar Space is a stripped-down duet for saxophone and drums, with Coltrane and Rashied Ali pushing the music into some pretty uncharted territory.

On Tuesday, September 22nd, saxophonist Steve Alford and drummer Jeff Arnal will perform Interstellar Space live, taking on the record as a duo.

Afterward, we’ll talk about Coltrane, Ali, free improvisation, and what this music still has to teach us almost 60 years later.

Free with RSVP.
