Thanks again ❤️ & for letting me takeover and spam up your feed!
I’m leaving you all with a fun project to do with your kids, friends or family🍄
They are really fun for everyone!

Create a paper bag Mushroom that honors the natural world by
bringing awareness to the beauty in nature and it’s healing properties🍄

Happy 4th🇺🇸

Mushroom instructions

You will need:
* Brown paper bags, any size, used are the best :) The larger the bag the larger the mushroom.
* Bamboo skewers/shish kabob skewers
* Hot glue gun/glue sticks

How to:
1. Open the brown paper bag, slide your hand inside and open it all the way, with your other hand grab the neck of the bag, slide your hand out and begin to squeeze the neck of the bag to form the mushroom stem.
2. Once the stem is formed hold the stem close to the top of mushroom. With your other hand push the top part of the bag down over your fist to smash the top of the bag to form the round top of the mushroom cap.
3. Shape the mushroom cap by folding over any corners.
4. Open the bottom of the bag/stem and add a good amount of hot glue, place the skewer point side out inside the stem (pointed side out), push it all the way up till it reaches the mushroom cap. Squeeze the paper bag around the skewer, the hot glue will dry very fast.
5. Have fun displaying your mushroom outdoors or in an indoor potted plant.

I dream of puffy clouds, idyllic landscapes, and kaleidoscope skies super-enhanced with the use of an herbal nightcap. I have always embraced a deep connection with the natural world through my art. This connection is rooted deep in my subconscious where my imagination refabricates nature into my artful practice. My creations are a complex mix of emotions, memories, and passions that preserve the natural world the way I enjoy seeing it. Although the environment has remained a universal theme, my art has evolved and changed alongside my state of being. At first I sewed intricate two-dimensional landscapes, so focused on reproducing the absolute beauty of nature that I missed its ephemeral beauty. As my state of being changed so did my perspective of the natural world.
The wall landscapes are created from hand-dyed textile waste that’s collaged sewn and stuffed. The depth-manipulation in these pieces is inspired by sculptural relief art. The textiles are manipulated to create lucid puffy dreams and fading environments that can no longer heal themselves.

Hi!! heyyy hello❣️
My name is Alissa Alfonso, I was born and raised in Miami FL. I live in Hollywood Fl with my partner, we created 3 sweet humans…Grey 21, Ash 17, and Goldie 12 (yes..they are all named after colors)
I will be sharing a bit about my artful life & sustainable art practice. I’m kinda a private person but I feel safe amongst the Moms in the world to get personal and open up & share my life’s work.
Thank you❣️ & for getting me out of my comfort zone.
I live and work artfully in our 1937 Art Deco home that we historically preserved 11 years ago. I have always worked from places I have lived, carving spaces to create even if that meant cleaning off the dining room table in the middle of a project so we could eat dinner.
I used to think this made me less of an artist because I didn’t have a studio space out of my home. But over time I have realized my studio is my home. I have fit art making into
my life because it is truly part of my existence. There is a part of my adult life that my focus was caring for and nurturing little humans. I took that roll very seriously and shifted my art making to things that comes along with motherhood. The child rearing period of my life lead me to experiment with mediums I probably would not of worked with, in fact I feel my art practice would not of been focused on textiles or repurposed if it wasn’t for my children. My sustainable art practice centers around awareness and leaving the world a better place for future generations, and those generations are my children.
I’m also part of the “sandwich” generation, almost done raising kids, but now care giving to my parents (and I thought raising kids was hard🤯)
I’ll be adding a couple more posts and personal bits in stories today, so feel free to follow along, questions are more than welcome!

We are so excited to have an today from one of the artists featured in Painting at Night !!

Miami based textile artist known for her nature-inspired work in soft sculpture, fused plastic installations, and stuffed textile wall collages. Alissa Alfonso creates work that honors and recreates the natural world by repurposing found materials to reflect both the abundance and waste characteristic of modern life. Her pieces celebrate the freedom inherent in nature, recognize lost and disappearing landscapes, and warn of a future in which nature can no longer heal itself.Created entirely from upcycled materials, her “Nature’s Medicine” soft sculpture collection delicately detailed, hand-dyed fabric pieces are modeled after traditional medicinal plants and botanicals. Healing plants replicated this collection include everything from “Aloe Vera” to “Purple Kush” ma*****na. Essentially, these pieces represent a deeper connection with the natural world, acknowledging their historical use by humans. Alfonso’s passion to preserve natural enviroments and to reconnect her community with the surrounding abundance drives her to constantly collect and repurpose discarded materials. The fused plastic bag “clouds” and “jellyfish” that hang from string and float across pools in her installation works are both beautiful and melancholy, silently noting the link between overconsumption of plastics and declining life in the world’s oceans. Alissa's passion of non-traditional arts has led her to develop an entirely "green" art program called in Broward County schools. Alfonso is currently working on soft-sculpting parts for a functional lighting series consistent with healing plants as well as several large, super stuffed wall collages that are a twist on traditional relief art, they reflect both the beauty and fading of the natural world, while the spectrum of colors reflect the diversity of hues available in Earth’s vast sky.

Give her a warm welcome!

Our second guest, Theopolis Smith III () is a multidisciplinary artist originally from Saint Louis, Missouri and now in Fort Wayne, Indiana, whose murals and portrait work are vibrant, emotional, and heavily influenced by culture. He describes himself as a “visual DJ”. Everything he creates incorporates his unique, stylized touch. There’s literally nothing this guy can’t do, but he’s always looking for the next thing to try. You get the feeling, while listening to him, that his art is as much his career as his lifeforce.

Matthew Plett is on the podcast this week and he describes himself with a variety of titles, including “Muralist / Freelance / Artist / Designer / Letterer / Illustrator” (I took that straight from his Instagram, , folks). His larger than life murals embody warmth and personality, and they have a sort of, “joie de vivre” you can’t just pull from nothing. It comes straight from him.

Our three Artist/Dads in this week's episode bring so much to the conversation about parenthood and art. And, so…okay, these may not be the typical podcast guests for the Artist/Mother Podcast, and I’m not prepared to bring an Artist/Dad Podcast into the fray. That said? The narrative is very familiar. The themes of our conversation moved from vulnerability to intersectionality to racism and sexism to invisible labor. And of course, we talked about creating art. This episode is a true, “DON’T MISS THIS”. It will make you feel seen and wholeheartedly validated. Link in bio.
