This is a 11x14 Giclee print on archival matte paper.

Made some more progress on this fun piece. Thinking I’ll do 1 or 2 more layers and then be done. Gonna add in a few pops of red orange to bring it all together.

Alright it’s story time!

So my latest piece “Baila con Mi Papi” was made in memoriam of my friend ’s grandpa Mr. Juan Ramón. This is the original photo. During one of my hiatuses from working on the piece, Juju hit me up one day and said “I have something to show you and I hope it motivates you to finish that piece”. She sent me a screenshot of her last FaceTime call with her grandfather and at the top of the screen is an IG notification showing none other than ME responding to one of her stories! 🤯

To say that that pic gave me a new sense of purpose to complete the piece is an understatement.

But let’s go a bit further. I sent her a pic of the almost complete canvas to show her the crystals I had been using to anchor my creative energy. All three stones (malachite, selenite and carnelian) came from her shop . Imagine how I almost passed out when she said “Brooo 2 of those crystals are in his casket right now!”

I said all of that to say this: When God and the universe have chosen you for something, Spirit will truly conspire in your favor against all odds to make sure you see it through to fruition. Thank you Mr. Juan Ramón for choosing me to commemorate your spirit in this realm. ✨💙✨

My dear friend lost her grandfather last year and I decided I wanted to help commemorate his memory by painting a picture that I know she cherishes as much as she did him. This was such a challenge, so much so that it took a year for me to overcome my own mental critiques and just put the paint down regardless of how many times I had to start over.

I finished it and I’m happy with myself. I have so much more to this story, it will blow your mind when I share how he chose me to commemorate him in spirit before his passing. But I’m saving that for later. When I share some detail/progress pics of this piece.

I added some hair to my pastel lady from last night’s video. I can’t lie I was nervous as hell when I posted bc I was not confident in my work at all. But I picked up an oil pastel this morning and said “Nope! We’re not letting self doubt win this time!”

I’m starting to understand how to work with them and I’m excited to see how she looks when I finish this piece.

“Nobody ever started knowing how to do it already.”

Who remembers the sneak peek I posted of this piece at the end of November?

It’s finally complete! (It’s been for a while actually lol)

I present to you “Coruscant” - if you are a Star Wars fan then you are familiar with this planet. I personally haven’t watched any of the movies except for a few perks here and there recently, but I will be changing that very soon. I never knew these movies were the perfect mix of fantasy and action that I love!

Anyway you might be wondering how I came up with the title if I haven’t watched the movies yet. Well, I’m gonna have to tell y’all about that another time! 🙃

This might be the start to a new series. Or not. Who knows? Let me know what you see in this beauty and if you feel called to do so, give me a share!

That’s all I have for now. Enjoy the rest of your day beautiful people ✨

Hey y’all! So I was reminded by my good sis Juju (ow be ner of ) that I needed to get proactive with posting again. Gotta love friends that have your best interest at heart! I had so many reasons why this wasn’t the time to start posting again, but if I’m being honest it’s really fear that’s been holding me back. So this is me stepping out of my comfort zone with a piece that I have no direction for. It started out as an experiment for me to see how this coarse texture medium looked on canvas and how I can incorporate colors to create the beautiful abstracts I see in my mind. What do you see when you look at this piece? Do you think I should leave it as is or add to it? Let me know in the comments!

Detail shot of one of my current works in progress. Finally exploring the world of abstract art like I intended when I began painting in 2017. Sometimes we get lost in this social media stuff and forget our WHY due to FOLLOWING others under the guise of “inspiration”. It’s ok to get lost, but make sure you find your way back to your WHY.

I’m working on about 4-5 different pieces currently and I can’t wait to share them. This is my attempt to stay disciplined as well as make sure I have enough work to consistently share.

Baby steps. Hope y’all are enjoying your Monday!!

Aight so boom: when I started posting art again I vowed to make sure I show the hard moments, the moments when it’s just not working out and idk what to do to fix it. Not just the nice WIPs and completed pieces bc that’s not real life.

Over the last 2 days I’ve completed one piece per day for this new series I’m working on with . Today’s piece was supposed to be a Hamsa hand. Buuuut I can’t seem to get it right (kinda hard to focus with a 5yr old running around shooting nerfs and fighting imaginary villains. He’s an avenger if you didn’t know 🤦🏽‍♀️).

Normally I’d have a meltdown, scrap it and then tell myself how I knew I couldn’t do this and I’m just not a good artist, etc.

Today I’m not doing that. Today I’m going to remove this paper from my easel. Place it aside. Take some time to play Mortal Kombat with the kid (judge your own parenting, thanks). Prepare a new piece of paper. Place it on my easel and start the next design idea I have. I’ll revisit this hand at a time when I have silence and can properly zone out.

After I eat these pancakes tho! 🤣🤣🤣

Story time!

Back in October, reached out to me and asked if I could help her out of a bind and create a cover for her upcoming debut book “Oshun Forgot About Me”. Naturally I wanted to say no. I’m not a graphic designer, I barely created anything at all in 2020 and I had lost all faith in myself as an artist. However while on that call there was a voice that kept saying “Say yes!” So I said yes and asked for her vision.

I hung up the call and freaked out because umm how the hell was I gonna do it? I had no idea, especially because I’m not a portrait artist at all.

She called me back a few days later and said scrap the original idea let’s come up with a new vision. We really didn’t come up with anything concrete lol. She gave me an idea of sad eyes and I said to myself “Tash we know what the book is about and what Oshun represents, we can do this”. So I proceeded to look for a guided meditation for creating. I felt like I was hypnotized during that meditation. I sat down and proceeded to use a reference photo to create the face.

I was terrified when I sent the first progress shot to my client. I just knew she’d hate it. I was wrong. She loved it and I was beyond shocked and proud of myself for bringing this vision forth.

I can say that I am a book cover artist and have work on Amazon now. Look at that!

“Oshun Forgot About Me” by Shamika Booker, illustrated by me Tasha F. is Shamika’s personal story about her journey to motherhood and speaks about the unspoken issue of infertility amongst Black women. It is available on Amazon in paperback as well as digital form. Support black women and help break the narrative!

Hey y’all! Happy Saturday and more importantly HAPPY JUNETEENTH!! I’ve been sitting with this piece for about 2 weeks now trying to decide if it’s done or if I should add more to it. I think I’m gonna leave it alone and start on the next piece. I wanna do another one with this primary palette but maybe make red or blue the main color this time. Idk. What do you think?
