It’s been a whole week since the Pittsburgh Renaissance festival ended, I tried to take a little time off before getting back into production to kind of tidy things up both in the studio and in the house and just get set for the next selling season. My week is just about up and I’m slowly starting to get back to pottery oriented and studio things. I still haven’t put the studio back together after doing some cleaning but I should be doing that today and I’m starting to take pictures in order to restock the online shop. There’s a lot of stuff I have to make. It will probably be the end of October or beginning of November before it is fully stocked, but I’m working on it.

I started some long overdue studio cleaning yesterday and more today. It’s too big a job for me to mentally handle all at once but I’m dedicated to doing it before I throw myself into making more pottery.

Today has been a frustrating day of repairs in the studio.

My first project was the pug mill, and thankfully, that one was a success. The de-airing compressor wouldn’t turn on, and after some troubleshooting, it turned out to be a power supply issue. So that’s back up and running again.

The bigger project is a kiln that’s been down for weeks. I just haven’t had the time to really get into it until today. Earlier in the season, I had connectors slide off terminals and short out the kiln, so this time I’m being extremely methodical. I’m going through it connection by connection, checking every contact and every wire to make absolutely sure everything is exactly where it belongs.

The work itself isn’t so bad. The real challenge is that everything I need to get to is in a very awkward space for an inflexible man like me to jam himself into.

It’s certainly easier now that I’m about 60 pounds lighter than I used to be, but it’s still pretty damn awkward.

But I made progress. The first of three sections is complete, and I’ll tackle more of it tomorrow—hopefully with a fresh attitude, because by the time I stopped tonight, I was getting pretty damn cranky.
