Otti Berger (Croatian-Jewish, 1898 - Auschwitz 1944) was born on this day. She was a student and later a teacher at the Bauhaus who was murdered in the Holocaust.
"Children's blanket", 1929, cotton, Bauhaus.
At the Bauhaus Berger studied under László Moholy-Nagy, Paul Klee, and Wassily Kandinsky, among others. She has been described as "one of the most talented students at the weaving workshop". Aside from creating innovative designs and processes, Berger also served as a deputy in the textile workshop under Lily Reich. She developed a curriculum and served as a mentor to numerous students who adopted various Bauhaus methods.
