Juneteenth is more than a holiday.

It is a celebration of freedom, resilience, joy, and the enduring spirit of Black Americans.

On June 19, 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that more than 250,000 enslaved people were free. That day became known as Juneteenth and has been celebrated ever since as a milestone in the ongoing journey toward freedom and liberation.

Today, we honor the generations who resisted, dreamed, created, built community, and expanded the promise of freedom. We celebrate the rich history, culture, and contributions of Black Americans and the legacy of hope that Juneteenth represents.

We encourage you to learn, reflect, and celebrate with the National Museum of African American History & Culture. Explore their Juneteenth resources at the link in the comments.

PRIDE is a powerful testament to the strength and resilience of our LGBTQIA+ community. June 14th’s Sunday Service will momentarily set aside the glitter, rainbows, and body paint typically associated with PRIDE. Instead, we will honor the rich cultural heritage of its community, particularly the vital contributions of BIPOC individuals and organizations. We’ll reflect on the history and significance of Pride, acknowledging the collective struggle for equity and justice that sparked its origins in NYC and beyond. On this MOSIAC Sunday, together, we will lift up diverse LGBTQIA+ voices and recommit ourselves to the ongoing fight for equality and inclusion that, at its core, PRIDE represents

Pulse was more than a nightclub. It was a place of joy, belonging, community, and refuge. We honor those whose lives were taken 10 years ago on June 12, 2016, and we hold close the survivors, loved ones, and LGBTQIA+ communities forever changed by that night.

May their memory continue to call us toward a world where every person can live openly, safely, and fully as themselves.

This Pride Month, we celebrate the joy, resilience, and beauty of LGBTQIA+ communities.

In "The Q***r Beatitudes," Tim Atkins (also known as Sister Sweet Suffering Tea of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence) offers this blessing:

"Blessed are we, the whole q***r family,
for love is our birthright, and joy is our inheritance."

May we continue building a world where every person can live, love, and flourish as their full self. 🌈

"Part of the Human Heart" We talk about being connected to everything--but what does this look like, both theologically and practically? Rev. Amanda will explore Indra's Net, the Body of Christ, and the mystical experience of oneness at the heart of so many religious traditions, and invite us to explore how this shows up in our own lives.

It’s a weekend of tradition, celebration, and FUN here at UUCA! 🌸✨

Kick off your weekend with First Friday tomorrow night—tacos, Scottish dancing, strikes, and a joyful celebration of May 1st through different traditions and meaningful fellowship.

Then on Sunday, we celebrate spring and the beauty of individuality with our Flower Communion. This beloved Unitarian Universalist tradition reminds us that each person—like each flower—is unique and essential to the whole. In a time when that message feels especially important, we come together to honor the power of diversity and community.

And the celebration continues after worship with Everybody’s Birthday! Join us in the Reeb Center for cake, games, and connection as we celebrate all the individuals who make our community so special. 🎂💐

We can't wait to welcome and celebrate you this weekend!
