Holli Michener~ Carrollton TX.
Category: Painting
My technique is to apply oil color in thin layers over a monochromatic acrylic underpainting. Sometimes I start with Payne's Grey and wash in Burnt Umber to adjust the tone before applying the color. Occasionally spray paint is used for a haze effect in the background elements. Once the underpainting is rendered, a layering process in oil paint is applied which slowly tightens up the detail.

My artisan jewelry is inspired by my experience working on archaeology digs and in museum basements. I am drawn to the push and pull of ancient and modern combining age-old design inspiration with a contemporary aesthetic.
Known for a signature torch applied patina mixed with hand textured and mirror polished golden details, I also include artifacts, fossils, unique specimens, and self-mined minerals into my jewelry with 14k gold filled details.

I make trees from all types of wire. Some are placed on repurposed picture frames some are placed on driftwood some on stones.

Jim Brightwell~ Caddo Mills, TX.
Category: Sculpture
I make wall hung sculptures by casting concrete and hybrid adobe into molds. The pieces integrate distressed steel, wire, glass, wood and salvaged organic material into the compositions. I want to combine the format of painting with the depth and texture of sculpture. Most of the pieces are hollow to some degree to create depth and an interior narrative in tension with the exterior surface.

Jef Barton~ Fort Worth, TX.
Category: Ceramic
I have been a potter for 45 years making functional and decorative pieces using various stoneware clay bodies and firing methods. I create functional pieces that are made with stoneware clay and fired to Cone 10 in reduction atmosphere using a gas kiln to 2350’ F, which produces a highly durable ware with rich yet often subtle glaze colors. There are some pieces fired in the RAKU process which is a quick fire process.

Daryoush Ababaf~ Plano, TX.

Inlay on wood is the extraordinary art of creating artistic images by inlaying small pieces of woods. I use a wide range of wood types by their natural grains and colors. All natural colors from various types of woods carved for a pleasant 3-D feel. Each single piece cut with a deep throat fret saw. I describe my work as an effort to reveal the secrets of the wood’s life.

As well as texture of all forms and findings to convey the final image of my work. I build from a flat base to bring depth and interest to my final piece. Bryan Ross~ Loachapoka, AL.
Category: Glass
My process is a different way of creating one of a kind stained glass pieces. In one technique I use a modern form of Dalle de Verre, cement is used instead of lead. The other technique uses UV epoxy. Both these processes make it possible to create panels which incorporates antique glass pieces, wood, metal and plastics items. Using these techniques, the outcome is stained glass panels with a 3D appearance. I also think it gives the panels a cleaner look.

A BIG THANK YOU to Drink Milo's Tea for becoming a sponsor of the Vandergriff Art Festival!

Milo’s was founded as a restaurant in 1946 by Milo and Bea Carlton after Milo returned from serving our country in World War II. Milo’s philosophy was simple: use high quality, natural ingredients, listen to your customers, and never sacrifice taste.
This vision still guides us today as we source natural ingredients and never add colors or preservatives.
Seventy-five years later, Milo’s is still a family-owned business and also a Certified Women Owned Business with corporate headquarters in Bessemer, Alabama.
Milo’s is also a Platinum-Certified Zero Waste Manufacturer devoted to sustainable practices and the stewardship of local communities and the environment.

Be sure to stop by the Milo's booth at the Vandergriff Art Festival and get free samples of tea!
