The mystery snails that I am currently rehoming are called a black/wild. They have a dark shell with a black foot. They are bred and raised in my tank. They live anywhere from one to 3 years. They do not change s*x like other snails. There needs to be a male and female to breed. Mystery snails have a lung and gills so they can breathe air. They need to come to the service from time to time to breathe. NEVER EXPOSE THEM TO COPPER OR SALT. Be careful if you medicate your tank that it is safe for invertebrates. They NEED a lot of calcium in their diet. You can make “snello” for them or you can use Tums. They must be the original hard tums and not the chews. No mint or peppermint or citrus Tums. Mystery snail females lay eggs out of the water. They will crawl out of the tank to look for a place to lay eggs. Sometimes they will crawl out if the water conditions are not good. For this reason, it is good to have a tight lid they cannot escape. Most of the time if they do crawl out, they die from injury from a fall. If you have aggressive fish, they will nip their antenna and bite them off. They will grow back but some snails have starved because they were too afraid to move. They do well in a community tank. They will help to keep your tank clean by eating leftover fish food, algae and biofilm. They will not eat healthy live plants but if you have a dead plant or a dead leaf on a plant, they will eat the dead plant matter. They will also strip the tiny roots from frog bit however it doesn’t kill the plant. There are 8 different colors of mystery snails. I hope I will be offering other colors soon. There are purple, magenta, chestnut, ivory, jade, gold, blue and black. I will guarantee the snails I sell from two hours of them leaving my hands. There is no way I can know the parameters of your tank water so I will not guarantee after two hours. If you do not contact me within the two hour time frame I will not refund your money. I will return only the money you paid. I will need the dead snail returned to me at the time you come to pick up your refund from me. No dead snail = no refund. I may be able to deliver locally in Arkansas City, Kansas.
This is my personal “snello” recipe.
Snello
1 4-ounce jar of vegetable only baby food with no salt. I use beechnut green beans or carrots.
2 packages of unflavored gelatin. I use Knox.
1 to 3 tsp calcium carbonate. You can also grind up tums. No peppermint or mint or citrus flavor.
1 to 4 tablespoons fish food with no cooper or you can use ground algae wafers or dried blood worms.
I heat my vegetables until they are hot on told of the stove in a small sauce pan. I slowly add the dry ingredients stirring constantly until it is incorporated. I then spoon the mixer into an ice cube tray I use only for the snello. I will let it freeze for about 10 minutes then I remove to from the tray and cut into small pieces. Place the pieces into a plastic zip lock bag and freeze until I am ready to feed them. They will last 6 months in the freezer.
This process smells horrible. Thank goodness it only smells while you are cooking it. The snails go crazy for it and it is a great source of calcium for them. This is how my snails get most of their calcium but it is not necessary to feed them snello. Also, you can find a lot of great snello recipes online, YouTube and Pinterest. I find this one really quick and easy. Please contact me via email (click the button above or my gmail is [email protected]) for rehoming fee pricing. Thank you!
