Spookywoods Haunted Attraction was started by a dare of teenagers in 1985 to go into an abandoned farmhouse when the founder Tony Wohlgemuth was 15 years old. After getting a good scare from a family of bats they decided to make a haunted house that fall. The various attractions now take over the majority of the 100-acre farm after decades of growth. Kersey Valley has a year-round team of artists and builders with a passion for creating fresh new experiences each fall.

Another major upgrade is taking shape at Spooky Woods!

The expansion of Club Spooky Courtyard is another step closer to completion. Despite the brutal North Carolina heat, the new pavement is going down and it looks incredible.

No more standing around on rocks. More room to relax. More space to enjoy Club Spooky. More comfort while you wait for your text to enter the woods.

We believe the experience starts long before you enter the first haunted attraction. That’s why we continue investing in the things that make your entire night at Spooky Woods better.

42 seasons and we’re still building, improving, and investing in our guests.

You’ll see the difference this fall.

Paving Club Spooky today, all for YOU, our loyal guests.

No more standing around on rocks. No more rough waiting areas. We’re investing in the things that make your entire night at Spooky Woods better.

More comfort. Better flow. A better experience from the moment you arrive.

You can see exactly where your ticket money goes. Right back into Spooky Woods.

42 years of building it better, one season at a time.

Back in the mid 80s when we started SpookyWoods, we honestly thought we were about the only haunted house around besides the local Jaycees charity haunt.

Then something pretty amazing started happening.

People who worked with us caught the bug. Some went on to start haunted attractions of their own. More haunts began popping up around the Carolinas, and before long, haunt hopping became part of fall.

You didn’t just go to one haunted house.

You loaded up a car with your friends and went looking for the next one.

You screamed together. You laughed together. You talked about which one scared you the most all the way to the next haunt.

It was a fall tradition that brought people together, and looking back, those really were some of the best times.

I want to bring that feeling back.

That’s why I’m so excited to see Passport to Fear starting to take hold and attractions like Spooky Bottom jumping onboard and helping spread the idea.

There is absolutely no reason for haunted attractions to be against one another. I’ve never punched down. I’ve only lifted up anyone that had a dream and a passion for this amazing industry. ļæ¼

There’s enough October to go around.

Go see Spooky Bottom. Go see the other independent haunted attractions that pour their hearts, creativity, money and countless hours into building something special every fall.

And yes, come see us at SpookyWoods just like your grandparents did when they were dating!

Don’t pick just one.

Haunt hop.

Make a weekend out of it. Make memories with your friends. Support the artists, actors, builders, dreamers and small businesses behind these attractions.

That’s what Passport to Fear is really about.

It’s bigger than promoting one haunted house. There is something special about haunted house hopping, it’s a memory for a lifetime.

It’s about bringing back a tradition.

See you on the haunt trail.

We’re excited to be part of Passport to Fear, a brand new way to haunt hop across the Southeast. Grab your passport at Spooky Bottom this season, collect stamps at each attraction, and get entered for swag and a grand prize pack of tickets from every haunt in the book. Make haunt hopping your mission this year!!!!

Thank you Tony Wohlgemuth at Kersey Valley SpookyWoods for telling us about this!! Glad to be apart of it!

There are a lot of things I’m proud of after more than four decades at Kersey Valley, but one of the things that means the most to me has nothing to do with buildings, attractions, or how big we’ve grown.

It’s the people who started here and went on to chase their own dreams.

Matt Patterson is one of those people.

Matt started out right here at Kersey Valley with a passion for creativity and the haunted attraction industry. He took that passion to the Tom Savini School of the Arts, developed his craft, and eventually took the leap to start his own company, Custom Character Fabrications.

Watching someone who was once part of our team grow into an artist and business owner creating incredible costumes and characters for haunted attractions is something that makes me incredibly proud.

Kersey Valley has always been a place where creative people can be a little different, dream a little bigger, and hopefully discover talents they didn’t even know they had.

If we can play even a small part in giving talented young people a place to start, learn, create, and eventually spread their wings, then that may be one of the greatest legacies we can leave behind.

Matt, I’m proud of you. I’m proud of what you’ve built, and I’m proud that a little piece of your story started here.

Keep chasing the dream and keep creating nightmares.

Please check out Custom Character Fabrications and support one of our own.

BIG upgrades are coming to Club Spooky for 2026!

We’ve been hard at work completely transforming this area of Spooky Woods with a brand new three story entertainment building, all new pavement and an entirely new way to experience your wait.

No more rope lines.

No more standing around on rocks.

Our new Virtual Queue system means you can spend your wait enjoying Club Spooky. Grab something to eat, get a drink, enjoy the entertainment and hang out with your crew. When it’s your turn, we’ll let you know it’s time to head into the woods.

And when you arrive this season, look down.

You can tell where our money goes. You’ll be standing on it.

We believe in putting our investment right back into Spooky Woods and, most importantly, into the guest experience.

After 42 seasons, we’re still building, still expanding and still pushing ourselves to make your night more comfortable, more entertaining and the absolute best experience we can build.

Welcome to the NEW Club Spooky.

Opening September 25, 2026.

It has no beginning. It has no end.

But every year, when the leaves begin to fall and the nights grow longer, the road opens again. Along it are places wher
