Arcata West African Dance and Drum Classes This page is a place for everyone in the Arcata/Humboldt County community to learn about the West African Dance class. All levels are welcomed. Wontanara!

We will post about master teachers coming up, give shout outs for drummers, and let you know if class is canceled. Class is taught by a rotating cast of experienced dancers. Class cost is $10 and $20 when a Master teacher comes. The Arcata class proceeds will be used specifically to bring guest teachers to our county, pay for class space and special scholarship and performance expenses. We are a c

ommunity based class. Anything extra to give is very appreciated. A couple of bucks, food, and always lots of love and smiles are good things to donate to our amazing drummers. They are a very important part of the drum and dance community so the more we give to them the more we will get in return. See you all on the dance floor!

The Littles were pumped! Our community has been performing at our local Arcata fair for decades! Arcata West African Dance and Drum Classes

We can feel how much we're appreciated! It's so many hours of preparation, rehearsals, years of studying West African drum and dance. Our rural county has maintained a passion for West African Culture through drum and dance that is unprecedented! Thankful for our teachers and community members who help keep this tradition going!

All levels dance class with Master Senegalese Dancer Tacko Sissoko!

Tacko Sissoko began studying dance as a child in Senegal, West Africa. She has danced with the most prominent dance companies and singers throughout Senegal and led the Ballet Nationale du Senegal; touring internationally for over twenty-five years. What Tacko offers is rare and special since she is one of the few from the older generation who is carrying on with teaching the traditional dance styles. She has taught dance workshops across the United States. She brings her passion, expertise and patience to teaching students at all levels.

All levels Tuesdays, Redwood Rak, 5:30-7

Drum class with Lansana Kouyate, Sundays, HLOC sunnybrae Arcata, 3-4:30

Beginning Dance, Sundays, HLOC sunnybrae Arcata, 4:30-5:30

All Level dance Willow Creek, Fridays, 5:30-6:30 every 2 weeks. Next class July 12th.
