Wanna get involved with Black Liberation Month 2023???
Black Liberation Month is a retitling of Black History Month and takes place every year for the entire month of February. As a way to empower the Black community, we want to create a sense of liberation through events planned for and by, Black and Brown community members. This project keeps Black and Brown history, which is often left out of textbooks or mainstream curriculums available and transparent for the entire Humboldt County community. Black history is United States’ history too and doesn't exist separate. By telling truthful stories of strength and perseverance and celebrating accomplished Black and Brown people we are liberating the community.
ISO Black & Brown community members to propose event, workshop and gathering ideas and facilitation. We are prioritizing any events that highlight or include topics that celebrate Black and Brown stories, lives and lifestyles.
Some topics we are interested in include but are not limited to; Black History education, Black revolution, Things they didn't teach us in school, cultural cooking, dancing, yoga, art projects, life skills, financial management, photography, and so much more!
