BRUNELLO: THE GRACIOUS VISIONARY by Guiseppe Tornatore
In the documentary film Brunello: the Gracious Visionary, Giuseppe Tornatore (Cinema Paradiso) imagines a symbolic card game between Brunello and a mysterious opponent—an allegory of Cucinelli’s life. As the unseen rival plays his hand, the film traces Brunello’s journey in a lyrical narrative, blending cinematic reconstructions, archival footage and intimate testimonies. Each chapter of his life is marked by affectionate nicknames: “little fox” from his grandfather, “young lord” from his father, “the German” from colleagues and “the wolf” from his wife. A poetic, almost medieval canticle, the film bears Tornatore’s unique signature, elevated by Nicola Piovani’s score.
