I landed here with Katieandme2 and began the business with a nod to the gypsies I had heard about in my travels. My homebased business is creating beautiful handknit felted gypsy bags. I handknit soft organic yarns then felt them which is a form of boiling wool for strength and beauty. The yarns blend into a tightly woven slightly fuzzy thick bag tough enough to protect your belongings. I start with size 11 circular needles and each bag can take more than 40 hours to create. Felting happens during abrasion when the scales of the yarn rub against each other tightening the fibers to close onto each other. The knitted bag shrinks after felting to 1/3 to 1/2 its original size. They can be washed in cold water, no dryer and stand when loaded. A large wooden button keeps them closed. I create these bags in a smoke free studio and they have no scent. The sizes are approximately: size small: 10x10, medium: 14x10; large: 16x10, extra large: 16x15 and jumbo:20x18.
