Thank you to Dr. Akimi Adler, Professor of Japanese at Lawrence University, for joining us last Saturday for the In Dialogue lecture, Kimono: Tradition, Identity, and Modern Expression.

Dr. Adler explored the history of Japan through the lens of the kimono, sharing how this iconic garment has reflected social identity, artistic expression, cultural traditions, and changing values across centuries. She also offered insights into the kimono's continued influence on contemporary fashion and creative practice today.

Thank you to everyone who attended! If you haven't explored the exhibition "Kimono: Garment, Canvas, and Artistic Muse" yet, it's on view through July 5. Admission is free!

Last week, SPARK! participants joined us at the Museum for conversation and making, centered around the KIMONO exhibition!

SPARK! is a free monthly program for adults living with memory loss and their care partners. Rather than focusing on memory or reminiscence, SPARK! engages in the present moment through observation, conversation, and art.

SPARK! hosts a public session on the first Wednesday of every month at 1 PM. We also host private monthly sessions with St. Paul Elder Services in Kaukauna and Touchmark in Appleton. Learn more and register at troutmuseumart.org/art-for-all/.

Thank you to Art Educator Michelle Sharp, with support from Tracey Ellenberg, for helping make each SPARK! session so special.

Special thanks to John and Susan McFadden, Fox Cares Foundation, and Neuroscience Group for their support of this program.

We are proud to partner with Appleton Downtown (ADI), and gener8tor Art on the Creative Professionals Talent Recruitment Initiative.

This initiative is led by ADI and supported by a Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation Talent Recruitment Grant. Because this is a talent recruitment grant, relocation funding is reserved for creative professionals moving to Wisconsin from outside the state.

As a partner, the Trout Museum of Art will serve as a hub, providing opportunities for program participants and the local creatives we already serve. Through workshops, networking events, mentorship opportunities, professional development, and community partnerships, the Museum can do what we always strive to do: support creatives at all stages of their careers.

We are deeply committed to local and regional artists. That commitment continues through exhibitions, teaching opportunities, community programming, artist-centered education, free admission, and long-standing events such as Art at the Park.

This initiative is designed to build a stronger, more visible, and more connected creative ecosystem for all creatives who live and work here, not to replace support for the artists already making this community vibrant. In the coming weeks, we will host local artist information sessions focused on gener8tor Art programs, including professional development, mentorship, networking, and ways to engage with gener8tor’s creative programming.
