Hook's Books is the oldest used bookstore in the High Desert. We originally opened in 1998 and are still here offering a wide selection of books at low prices today. We have mysteries, romances, children's books, Christian fiction, and a wide variety of non-fiction.

We got new shelves for the new store. It's taking time to assemble them. (They bring new meaning to some assembly required.) So, the opening has pushed back to the 9th.

For those going by the old Hook's Books, you will notice that we have completely moved out now. It was sad to see it go, but the new store location is beautiful. I can't wait for all of you to see it. Just remember, you can park in the back and there is a back door for you to use.

Update: The move is going smoothly so far (knock on wood). We will be closing April 8th since on the 9th we have to meet and do paperwork. When asked how long it will take, the powers that be said to schedule all day. Just how much paperwork does all day cover?

On the brighter side, if you stop by the new storefront, you can see that we are already moving in. It's a bit messy since we are repainting, but books are already piling up and waiting to go on shelves! And that's only a small fraction of the books coming in. We are ordering nearly 35,000 new books for the store!

It's official!

On April 10th, we will be moving to 18837 Highway 18 in Apple Valley, which is at Highway 18 and Tao Road. We'll be right next door to Overland Meat & Deli near the fire station. Our new store will be named, GreenBooks.

I'm sure you'll all enjoy our new store, especially when you hear that all the books in our new store will cost $1 plus tax!

The credit you have accumulated in Hook's Books will come over to the new store as a courtesy to our present customers.

Remember, we will be moving April 10th. We will try to move as quickly as possible to our new location, but we are expecting three weeks move time, so we should be ready to open our new doors May 1st.

We are open again today! New books are coming in all the time. We presently have Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, and The Order of the Phoenix. We also have Hunger Games in! Also come visit our new Libros en Espanol section where we have Harry Potter e a Pedura Filosofal and Escalofrios!

We will be closed Friday, February 19th and Saturday, February 20th. We have an unexpected trip, though a very happy one, to Arizona. We will be open as normal on Monday, February 22nd.

We are starting new activities!

READING GROUP- On the first Wednesday of each month we will be having a reading group from 5:30pm to 6:30ish. Sign up at the front counter and join us for interesting discussions. We will start with Women Who Run with the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estes.

C'EST FRANCAIS!- On the third Monday of the month, we will have a French meeting where we can watch a telecourse and practice our French. We will work out of the "French in Action" telecourse and books (for those who want a bit more). No teachers, no assignments. Just a good time learning a new language.
