Celebrating Grace Cavalieri and 50 years of making space for the art of poetry. ❤️

Last week, our Writer’s Roundtable community, led by Janice Booth, gathered at Maryland Hall to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Grace’s radio show, The Poet and the Poem.

During this special evening of poetry and conversation, Grace received a citation from State Senator Shaneka Henson recognizing her contributions to the arts. And she had plenty to celebrate: earlier that week, she also received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Annie Awards!

Congratulations, Grace, and thank you for five decades of sharing poetry with the world.

The “beat scientist” is coming to Maryland Hall. 🥁

Makaya McCraven brings the improvisation of jazz and the ear of a hip-hop producer together—deep grooves, layered rhythms and a sound that belongs in your rotation.

The portraits tell one story. The voices behind them tell so much more.
At the opening of Roots & Wings, we celebrated Annapolis elders and the students helping preserve their stories—bringing generations together through art, memory, and connection.

Presented in partnership with New Village Academy, this group exhibition pairs intimate student-crafted portraits with oral histories that honor the lives and legacies woven into our community.

Come spend time with their stories. On view in Maryland Hall’s Earl Gallery through November 4.

The Ignite topics just dropped. From Hollywood to the future of Annapolis, there’s plenty to talk about.

Bestselling author Kate Myers takes us behind the scenes of how books become TV shows and movies. Nora Demleitner, legal scholar and former president of St. John’s College, explores crime, justice and why we should care. And Andrea Kane Frank imagines a different future for Annapolis.

Plus: what if we had gyms for our emotions—and why does “we should get together sometime” so rarely turn into actual plans?

16 speakers. Five minutes each. Twenty slides that won’t wait. Bring a friend. Start with happy hour. Leave with something to talk about.
