Tradition and History for a Masquerade Ball dated back in Venice, Italy during the 15th century Renaissance, Masquerade balls were masque wearing functions costumed to the public festivities that were particularly popular in Venice. They were elaborate dances and games held for members of the upper classes and gave a sense of privacy for those who did not want to be known. This has been associated with the tradition of the Venetian Carnival.
Masquerade balls became common throughout mainland Europe with the first being held at Haymarket Opera House. Throughout the century the dances became popular, both in England and then Colonial America. And now Here in Maryland! So bring your spirit of masquerade!
