🎬 FILM CLUB IS TOMORROW!
And this month, we’ve got something special.

Join us for a Kim Merced Garland Film Retrospective, featuring four of Kim’s short films—including her Resurrection Trilogy and acclaimed horror short BODY IMAGE.

We’ll also get a peek behind the scenes at Kim’s creative process, followed by a live Q&A with Kim via Zoom!

Kim has gone on to write for SYFY’s CHUCKY and Netflix’s THE IMPERFECTS and was selected for the Black List x Women in Film Episodic Lab and Women in Film Directing Fellowship.

Come for the films. Stay for the conversation, drinks + nibbles. 🍿

A few scenes from opening night. 🖤

Folklore & Folktales is officially opened this past weekend. Thanks to everyone who came through to see the work, meet the artists, and spend the evening with us.

The exhibition brings together stories, traditions, myths, and memories—some passed down, some personal, and some reimagined through a contemporary lens.

Featuring work by Martin Beadle, Nikki Brooks, Cat Dolch, Deb Furey, Hailey Hagan, Jim Mackey, Jayla McKay, Felicia Reed, and Anike Robinson.

Missed the opening? The show is on view through October 13. — learn more at ANDcreativestudio.com

New art is coming in. 👀

Folklore & Folktales brings together nine artists exploring the myths, traditions, symbols, and stories that continue to shape the way we see the world. Some pieces are rooted in inherited histories, while others offer a fresh take on folklore through a contemporary lens.

Join us THIS Saturday (August 15, from 6–9 PM) for the opening reception + market!

Meet the artists, explore the exhibition, and then stop by ArtFarm Studios for our Night Market featuring local artists and makers.

Come for the art. Stay for the stories.

Meet J3

John has spent the summer with us as an intern at AND Creative, and it’s been a pleasure getting to know him—not only as a member of our team, but as an artist.

Between helping out around the gallery, he’s been carving out time to create in the studio, and after seeing what he’s been working on, we knew we had to share a little about his practice. 🎨🖌️✨

John is an emerging artist working across drawing, painting, and mixed media. His work explores identity, culture, memory, and expression, drawing inspiration from his own experiences, the people around him, and the everyday moments that continue to stay with him.

He describes his process as beginning “without one.”

🗣️ “I have a constant need to create. It’s like a voice in me that’s constantly whispering, ‘MAKE SOMETHING.’”*

Most of his work starts with an idea, memory, or experience that keeps replaying in his mind until he finds a way to make it tangible. Those ideas often begin as quick sketches before evolving into larger, more layered pieces.

For the past several years, oil pastels have been John’s primary medium. More recently, he’s been challenging himself with acrylic washes, oil paint, and larger canvases, embracing experimentation as an essential part of growing as both an artist and a storyteller.

John also creates from a place of gratitude. He speaks often about the influence of Afro-diasporic artists, thinkers, and leaders whose resilience made it possible for artists like him to create freely. That perspective, paired with his curiosity about people, culture, and history, continues to shape the stories he tells through his work.

This fall, John will return to Morehouse College Morehouse College, where he’s studying Art and Sociology — bringing those studies into both his artistic practice and his interest in curation.

We’ve loved having John as part of the our team this summer and can’t wait to see where his creative journey takes him next.

John, thank you for spending your summer with us. We’re wishing you all the success as you head back to Morehouse, and we’ll be cheering you on every step of the way. 👏👏

Putting the work into working artists. 👏

This we visited our friend twin gingers’s house in Rock Hall to plan out a project for her new business launch this fall.

Alison and Darin will be doing photography and graphic design (labels, cards, website, signage, etc). So, stay tuned!!

Fun fact: that “textile” flag in the studio is from the college Alison and Jen both went to — Jen even taught in the fiber arts department there for years.

It’s amazing how much beauty is hiding in the smallest details.

For these photographs, used a macro lens and a light box to study the lines, textures, and patterns found in feathers. Printed in black and white on cold press paper, the images have a softness that almost makes you want to reach out and touch them.

These pieces by are inspired by common American phrases that have become part of everyday conversation.

Some expressions get used so often that we hardly stop to think about them. Joseph brings them back into focus through these enamel-on-wood pieces, each measuring roughly 14 × 20 inches.

Come see Joseph’s work and the rest of Blue Moon, before the exhibition closes.
